What is Oshi no Ko?

Oshi no Ko is a manga series originally serialized in Weekly Young Jump, with the story by Aka Akasaka and artwork by Mengo Yokoyari. The story follows Gorou, an OB/GYN working in a rural town, who ends up assisting in the delivery of his beloved “oshi” (favorite idol), Ai. However, he is murdered soon after. He is then reborn as Ai’s child, only to witness the tragic stabbing death of Ai by a stalker. The narrative unravels the mystery surrounding Ai’s sudden death, follows Aqua’s quest for revenge, and exposes the dark underbelly of the entertainment industry.

The series has sold over 25 million copies worldwide. The TV anime adaptation debuted with Season 1 in April 2023, followed by Season 2 in July 2024. Its unique setting within the entertainment world and shocking plot twists have made it a massive topic on social media, even leading to stage and live-action drama adaptations.

A Surprise “Special OP” Steals the Show

While it was announced that the Season 3 OP would be CHANMINA’s “TEST ME,” Episode 25 featured a special opening with B-Komachi’s insert song “B no Ribenji” (“B’s Revenge”). The incredible quality of the song, which felt more like a main theme than an insert, led to an outpouring of praise on social media with comments like, “Isn’t this OP too good?!” and “This is a god-tier song!!!”

And it’s no wonder it’s a hit! This lavish song is a brand-new composition by the well-known anime theme song artist Masayoshi Ooishi, who handled the lyrics, composition, and arrangement! Fans of the series will already be familiar with Masayoshi Ooishi from creating B-Komachi’s in-show song “Sign wa B” (“Sign is B”) for Oshi no Ko Season 1.

Fans reacted with joy, saying, “This is too intense!”, “No way! This is insane!”, “I cried the moment I saw his name, what a surprise!”, “I want to hear the full version ASAP!”, and “Is His Majesty a god-tier song-making machine?!” There were even requests for “Ooishi-san to dance too.” The cast members have already shown off their adorable dance moves in the “B-Komachi Cast ‘Dance Try’ Video“.

In addition to the footage from the episode, an official “B no Ribenji Official Choreography Video” has been released. It seems we can look forward to a future where viewers learn the dance and post their attempts on social media.

MEM-cho Shines as a Ray of Light

Episode 25 depicted each character’s career moving forward, yet was permeated by an uneasy atmosphere—from the love triangle involving Aqua, Akane, and Kana to Ruby’s dark expression. In the midst of this, the one ray of light was MEM-cho. Her contributions to B-Komachi’s impending breakout and her supportive, almost motherly presence for Kana and Aqua led fans to call her “MEM-cho is seriously capable,” “MEM-cho is too much of a saint,” and “Mama-cho.”
