About the Manga

Uruwashi no Yoi no Tsuki is a manga by Yamamori Mika, serialized in Kodansha’s Dessert magazine. It paints the special first love story between two high schoolers both nicknamed “Prince”: Ichimura Kohaku, the most handsome guy in school from a wealthy family, and Takiguchi Yoi, a girl known for her androgynous beauty and cool demeanor. This is a relatable first-love story that delicately depicts how Kohaku, experiencing true love for the first time, and Yoi, falling in love for the first time, grapple with the gap between their inner selves and others’ perceptions, slowly closing the distance between them.

Since its serialization began in 2020, it has captured readers’ hearts, winning numerous awards like first place in the “ebookjapan Manga Awards 2023” and the grand prize in the “2nd Minna no Oshi Love Manga Awards.” The series is a massive hit, with cumulative worldwide circulation of the tankobon volumes surpassing 7.5 million copies. The latest Volume 10, released this January, topped the Billboard JAPAN comprehensive book chart “JAPAN Book Hot 100.”

Furthermore, a TV anime adaptation began broadcasting this January on the TBS network across 28 stations. With its stunning animation that pays meticulous attention to detail—from eye movements to individual strands of hair and even hand veins—it has received high praise from viewers. It’s now gaining attention as one of the most beautiful and hugely popular love stories that resonates deeply with audiences.

Cast & Production Team

In this live-action film, the role of the perfect-looking, top high school hunk “Prince” Ichimura Kohaku is played by Michieda Shunsuke. Michieda, a rising young actor, made his film debut as the lead in Even If This Love Disappears from the World Tonight (2022), which grossed over 1.53 billion yen. With his solo film debut The Last Song You Left Me set for release this March, he continues his momentum by taking on his second solo lead role in this film. To match Kohaku’s visual from the original, he sported a gorgeous platinum blonde hair color for the shoot. Michieda’s own transparency and prince-like aura are set to maximize Kohaku’s charm, as he sensitively portrays a character who seems flashy but is actually sincere, facing his first serious love after meeting Yoi.

The role of the beautiful and smart-acting “Prince” girl Takiguchi Yoi is taken by Anzai Seira. Anzai, who has been steadily expanding her range with roles in works like Trillion Game (2023/TBS), The Diamond Sleeping in the Sea (2024/TBS), Mikami-sensei (2025/TBS), Akabane Koshiko no Bodyguard (2024), and KARADA Sagashi THE LAST NIGHT (2025), makes her first challenge as a heroine in a love story with this film. She will bring Yoi to life with her inherent mature, boyish charm, portraying Yoi’s confusion in her first love. This marks the first collaboration between Michieda and Anzai.

Directing this tale of love is Takemura Kentarou, known for his careful direction. He served as chief director for Saionji-san Wa Kaji O Shinai (2024/TBS) and Taigan no Kaji ~Kore ga, Watashi no Ikiru Michi!~ (2025/TBS). His film directorial debut, The Exchange Diary of Lies (2023), vividly depicted the emotions of two people missing each other, leading to a smash hit. He will delicately and beautifully weave the subtle emotions of Kohaku and Yoi as they struggle with the gap between their inner selves and others’ impressions while confronting their own feelings.

The script is penned by Tokunaga Yuuichi, who leads Japan’s entertainment industry. Known for the Kaguya-sama: Love is War series (2019, 2021) and recently for the mega-hit Cells at Work! (2024), he also won the Best Screenplay Award at the “43rd Japan Academy Film Prize” for Fly Me to the Saitama (2019).

Additionally, the teaser visual showcasing the emotions of both Kohaku and Yoi has been unveiled. With copy that reads “Love… I don’t get it.” for Kohaku and “Love… doesn’t suit me.” for Yoi, it reflects their confusion about love, presenting an overwhelming beauty with the two princes side by side.

These two, who appear confident but actually harbor delicacy and clumsiness, are not perfect. Anticipation is already building for what kind of story they will weave.

So, how will the love story woven by a man and a woman both called “Prince” unfold? The live-action film Uruwashi no Yoi no Tsuki is set for nationwide release in autumn 2026. We look forward to more updates in the future.

Full Comments from Cast and Staff

Michieda Shunsuke

“I had read the original work thoroughly and was a fan, so I was really happy when I was offered the role! Kohaku may seem like a smooth talker in love, but he’s actually very pure, clumsy, and a boy who can’t be honest. He’s a super cool guy, but he has that side to him too, which creates a gap. I think he’s a character with a boyish charm who seems used to women but isn’t at all, discovering a new self and being elated or worried. Anzai-san is a very bright person who cheered up the set, so I was really supported by her. The Yoi played by Anzai-san was very straightforward and attractive! While getting excited about the two ‘Princes’ missing each other and their conflicts, I’d be thrilled if viewers could watch and think, ‘What face will he make next?’ and feel their hearts race!”

Anzai Seira

“I’m such a fan of the original that I get restless near the release date of a new volume and always go to the bookstore to buy it on the day, so when I received the offer, I felt very honored. That’s why it was also a moment when I resolved to approach this sincerely. How can we express the beautiful world Yamamori-san created through the screen? Not just Yoi’s visual, but the freshness and clumsiness of falling in love for the first time, and the demeanor that earns her the ‘Prince’ title despite being a girl—I tried and experimented with every scene while checking the original with the director and staff. The Kohaku played by Michieda-san is Kohaku himself in his gestures and gaze, with a pace that makes you think you’ve got him figured out, only for him to slip away, ungraspable. That part of being swayed by Kohaku’s pace was a key in playing Yoi. The period I spent as Yoi has become irreplaceable in my acting career. I would be happy if this becomes a work that remains in the hearts of those who watch it.”

Director Takemura Kentarou

“I feel honored to be able to adapt the delicate and beautiful world that Yamamori-sensei has drawn. The lead actors, Michieda-kun and Anzai-san, are both portraying the complex inner sides of Kohaku and Yoi, who are called ‘Princes,’ in a charming way. To both fans of the original and those encountering this work for the first time, please come to the theater to see their earnest, straightforward human drama and their growth as they clumsily and painfully navigate their feelings.”

Original Author: Yamamori Mika

“When I heard about the live-action adaptation, I was very happy. And I was really looking forward to seeing who would play Kohaku and Yoi-chan. When I met Michieda-san and Anzai-san, who are worthy of the ‘Prince x Prince’ title, I was left speechless by their overwhelming beauty and overwhelming prince-like aura, thinking ‘Their faces are so small! Their legs are so thin!’ I remember being stunned. The production team also understood the original well and worked on it sincerely, so I am confident it will become a wonderful film. I hope this film reaches many people.”
