Hosoda Mamoru’s ‘Origin/Exhibition’ Brings Summer Wars’ ‘OZ’ to Life: Highlights and Exclusive Goods Revealed

Animation film director Hosoda Mamoru’s largest-ever exhibition, “Hosoda Mamoru no Kigen/Ten” (Hosoda Mamoru’s Origin/Exhibition), will be held at CREATIVE MUSEUM TOKYO in Kyobashi, Tokyo from June 20 to August 31, 2026. New details about the exhibition’s highlights and a first look at some of its exclusive original goods have been released.

The exhibition centers on Hosoda’s landmark works—Toki o Kakeru Shoujo (The Girl Who Leapt Through Time), Summer Wars, and Okami Kodomo no Ame to Yuki (Wolf Children)—displaying over 300 production materials including storyboards, layouts, original drawings, and art boards on a scale never before seen. The show aims to let visitors rediscover the director’s origins and relive the emotional impact of those summer classics.

Immersive OZ Zone and Life-Size Figures

Taking advantage of the venue’s 5-meter ceiling height, the exhibition will recreate the virtual world “OZ” from Summer Wars as an immersive experience. Two life-size figures—King Kazma and Love Machine—will also be on display. Adding to the depth, the exhibition includes works from Hosoda’s early career as a episode director before Toki o Kakeru Shoujo, his self-made 8mm animation from middle school, live-action films and oil paintings from his time at Kanazawa College of Art, and more, offering a comprehensive look at his creative roots.

Over 100 Exclusive Goods

More than 100 original exhibition-exclusive items will be available, allowing fans to take a piece of Hosoda’s world home. Products include items themed around the “blue sky” motif that symbolizes his works, as well as goods featuring iconic scenes from the films. A first selection of the lineup has been unveiled; further details will be announced on the official website.

Ticket and Touring Info

Tickets for the Tokyo exhibition are currently on sale via e+. Discounted advance tickets and limited-edition original goods set tickets are also available. The exhibition will travel to Osaka (Grand Front Osaka North Building Knowledge Capital Event Lab, October 28, 2026 – January 4, 2027) and Fukuoka (Fukuoka City Museum, January 22 – March 28, 2027).
