The television anime Maronié Oukoku no Shichinin no Kishi (The Seven Knights of the Maronié Kingdom) is set to premiere on NHK Eテレ in October 2026, as announced by the production team. Based on the manga by Iwanamoto Nao, which has been serialized in Shogakukan’s Monthly Flowers since 2016, the series has already been translated and published in France, Spain, and other countries, enjoying a wide international following. As of June 1, 2026, ten volumes have been released.
The story is a fantasy romance set in the Maronié Kingdom, which lies at the center of eight countries. Seven brothers who serve as knights are dispatched as ambassadors to each of the seven surrounding kingdoms, where they must find their destined partners. The series is known for its grand world-building and delicate emotional storytelling, appealing to a broad range of readers.
To celebrate the upcoming adaptation, a teaser visual depicting the seven brothers walking through a grassland alongside Maronié flowers, as well as a special video, have been released.

“When I first received the offer, I honestly felt a bit daunted by the image of a ‘grand fantasy spanning multiple countries.’ I’m actually not very good with stories where perfect heroes take on heavy missions to save the world, and I worried whether I could do it justice. But as I carefully read through the original work, the tension gradually melted away thanks to the exquisite balance between fantasy and reality. I will do my best to make the most of that ‘exquisite balance’ in the anime adaptation.”
“One of the highlights is that the story unfolds like a road movie: each character travels to a different region, so viewers can enjoy the varied cultures and landscapes of each chapter. The music also features instruments unique to each location, giving each area a completely different atmosphere. I hope the audience can feel as if they are traveling alongside the characters.”
