An original short anime for Kaijuu 8-gou titled “Narumi no Heijitsu” (Narumi’s Weekday) has been confirmed for streaming in autumn 2026. Alongside the announcement, a main visual depicting the First Division captain Narumi Gen holed up in his office playing games has been revealed.
Kaijuu 8-gou is a kaiju battle action manga by Matsumoto Naoya that was serialized on Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ app and concluded in July 2025. The series has surpassed 19 million copies in circulation domestically (including digital). Its popularity has extended overseas, especially in North America.
The anime adaptation, with animation by Production I.G and kaiju design by Studio Khara, had its first season air from April 2024, followed by a second season that ended in September 2025. Fans eagerly awaited news of a continuation, and at Jump Festa 2026, it was announced that a “conclusion arc” (kanketsu-hen) and the original short anime “Narumi no Heijitsu” were in production.
Details of the short anime had been kept under wraps until now. The story is based on an original idea by Watarizumi Taku, the author of the spin-off manga “Kaijuu 8-gou RELAX”, which is currently serialized in Saikyou Jump. That manga humorously depicts the daily lives of the Defense Force members, and the short anime is expected to shift from the main series’ serious tone to explore the characters’ everyday routines.
The released main visual shows Narumi Gen absorbed in gaming in his captain’s office, with the tagline “Today is also the strongest.” It contrasts with his usual formidable image, leaving fans curious about his ‘weekday.’
Furthermore, the solo event “Bouei-tai Boot Camp” which was held at Kanai Hall in Yokohama on June 1 last year to great acclaim, is returning as “Bouei-tai Boot Camp in Tachikawa” on October 24. It will take place at Tachikawa Stage Garden, a location associated with the series.
The event will feature familiar members from the former Third Division, joined by cast members from the First Division from season 2: Uchiyama Kouki as Narumi Gen and Yasumoto Hiroki as Hasegawa Eiji. The full cast includes: Fukushi Seiya as Hibino Kafka/Kaijuu 8-gou, Seto Asami as Ashiro Mina, Kato Wataru as Ichikawa Reno, Fairouz Ai as Shinomiya Kikoru, Kawanishi Kengo as Hoshina Soushirou, Arataki Yuuki as Furuhashi Ihara, plus Uchiyama and Yasumoto. Advance lottery ticket sales are currently underway.

Synopsis
Narumi Gen, captain of the Defense Force’s First Division. He is called “Japan’s strongest anti-kaiju force.” With his overwhelming strength comes an overwhelming arrogance: he skips meetings, elegantly avoids paperwork, and spends his free time gaming and browsing the net.
