The live-action film adaptation of Blue Lock is set to open on August 7, 2026 — the year the World Cup returns. Today, June 9, 2026 — a date that can be read as “2669” (Bu-Ro), making it a once-in-a-century “Blue Lock Day” — a batch of new scene stills capturing the fierce battles of the egoists has been unveiled. Additionally, the official YouTube channel has launched a project packed with rare behind-the-scenes footage.

Film Blue Lock main cut
Blue Lock is a soccer manga by writer Kaneshiro Muneyuki and artist Nomura Yusuke, serialized in Kodansha’s Weekly Shonen Magazine with cumulative print runs exceeding 60 million copies. The story unfolds at the “Blue Lock” project — a facility established to train the striker who will lead Japan to World Cup victory — where 300 high school forwards from across the nation engage in a ruthless survival competition. The manga’s groundbreaking premise, explosively egoistic characters, and unpredictable plot have captivated readers both in Japan and overseas, cementing its status as a new soccer manga milestone. The franchise has expanded into a TV anime (first season 2022), a theatrical anime film (2024), a smartphone game, and a stage play, among other media.
The long-awaited live-action film is directed by Taki Yusuke, with a screenplay by Kamata Tetsuo, and produced by CREDEUS — the team behind the Kingdom live-action series, Kokuhō, and Sakamoto Days. Topping the cast as protagonist Yoichi Isagi is Takahashi Fumiya.
From the film, a total of 14 scene stills have been revealed, featuring Isagi (Takahashi) and the other Team Z members, as well as the opposing players from Teams V, W, X, and Y.

The images show Isagi and Kira (Kura Yuki) facing the harsh trials of the Blue Lock facility, along with imposing shots of Nagi Seishiro (K from &TEAM) and Mikage Reo (Tsuna Hirotaka) — the overwhelming kings of Block 5 — radiating aura.

Other stills capture Baro Shoei (Higashi Keisuke) — who proclaims himself the king of the field — mowing down opponents with his unfathomable ego and power, and a tense moment in the cafeteria where Team Z and Team V clash face-to-face, egos colliding.

Meanwhile, there are also shots of Isagi, Chigiri Hyoma (Takahashi Kyohei), and Kunigami Rensuke (Nomura Kota) acknowledging each other and spurring each other to greater heights amid the harsh trials, as well as the project’s supreme director, Ego Jinpachi (Kubota Masataka), and his right-hand woman, Teirei Anri (Hata Mei), observing the boys from the monitor room. The passionate performances of the star-studded cast and the meticulously crafted world of the film only heighten anticipation.
Furthermore, the official YouTube channel has launched “BLUELOCK ULTIMATE BACKSTAGE,” a series documenting the behind-the-scenes efforts of the cast as they pour extraordinary energy into promoting the film. The first episode features the behind-the-scenes of the visual shoot — which caused a huge reaction on social media — as well as the backstage of the February production announcement event. Viewers can see the actors speaking passionately about the project and their dedication to getting every visual right. The backstage of the production announcement reveals the relaxed atmosphere of Team Z after overcoming tough filming, as well as the tense expressions just before taking the stage — rare candid moments. Future episodes are planned to include the cast earnestly discussing the film’s appeal and conversations with special guests, making this a must-watch for exclusive footage.
In addition, “BLUELOCK.LAB,” a “virtual research lab” that will research and disseminate the appeal of the film, its cast, and football from multiple angles, has officially begun. All cast members serve as researchers. The lab will undertake missions from the institute as well as thoroughly investigate topics brought in by the researchers themselves, delivering ample content of the cast in action.
On June 6, a preview of “Research on Reflexes and Decision Making: Spot the Spot Game” was released — a project proposed by lead actor Takahashi himself, researching the reflexes and decision-making of Team Z members. The video shows the actors seriously competing with their egos and also their friendly interactions. Starting with that video, the lab will thoroughly investigate various projects proposed by different cast members. There is also mention of a heated match against a former Japanese national team player, so future updates are eagerly awaited.
The live-action Blue Lock film opens on August 7, 2026.
