To celebrate Tove Jansson’s birthday on August 9—known as “Moomin’s Day”—a limited-edition collection titled “Moomin’s Day 2026” (Muumien Päivä 2026) has been announced. This year’s lineup marks the first proper autumn-themed collection from the Moomin Arabia brand.
The collection’s theme is autumn, completing the seasonal series that began with summer in 2018, followed by winter in 2021 and spring in 2024. With the addition of autumn, the “Four Seasons of Moomin Valley” are now complete. The designs are by Tove Slotte, the longtime illustrator behind Moomin Arabia mugs, who created 113 different Moomin mug designs before retiring in 2022.
The autumn mug depicts Moomin and the Snork Maiden playing in a stream. The illustrations across the seasons are connected by playful continuity: for instance, the summer mug showed Moomin and Moominmamma sitting side by side on rocks; in the winter mug, they moved to a bridge railing in the same pose. Similarly, Snufkin, who appeared hugging a tree in the winter mug, also appears in the spring mug.
In addition to the individual autumn mug, a special mini mug set of four collects all four seasonal designs in a gift box—perfect for collectors, interior decoration, and table coordination. Matching mini plates featuring the same illustrations are also available.
The Moomin’s Day 2026 collection will be sold at Iittala | Arabia Daimaru Tokyo store and Iittala stores from August 8 to August 16, 2026. At the official online store, Moomin Shop, Moomin Valley Park, MOOMIN SHOP ONLINE, and other retailers, sales run from August 8 to September 30, 2026.
For fans of the world of Moomin, Tove Jansson’s timeless characters have been beloved in Japan since the first TV anime in 1969, with the new series “Tanoshii Muumin Ikka” (1990) and the CG-animated “Muumin Tani no Nakamatachi” (2019). The theme park Moomin Valley Park opened in Hanno, Saitama in 2019.
