The official website for the television anime adaptation of Izushiro‘s light novel Saikyou Mahoushi no Inton Keikaku (also known as The Greatest Magicmaster’s Retirement Plan) opened on Wednesday, revealing the main cast, staff, a teaser visual, a promotional video, and a celebratory illustration by Miyuki Ruria. The series is scheduled to premiere on the CBC and TBS network nationwide under the “Agaru Anime” programming block in 2027.
Voice actor Uemura Yuuto (Vinland Saga) will star as the lead character Alus Reigin.

Izushiro began writing the fantasy novel on the Shousetsuka ni Narou website in April 2015. Hobby Japan started publishing the novel in February 2017, with illustrations by Miyuki Ruria. The 20th volume went on sale in December 2025, and the 21st volume is scheduled for release on December 1.
A manga adaptation by Uonuma Yuu began in Comic Fire in July 2017, but was discontinued after two volumes in January 2019. A second manga adaptation, The Alternative, illustrated by Yoneshiro Karu, ran on Manga Up! from August 2020 to November 2023, concluding in ten volumes. Comikey has been releasing the second manga digitally in English since July 2023.
J-Novel Club licensed the light novel for digital English release in March 2019, with the 19th volume released on May 21.
Synopsis
In a world where Fiends run rampant, Alus Reigin is a young prodigy who has defeated more Fiends and reclaimed more human territory than anyone else. At age 16, he requests retirement from military service, but fate leads him to enroll as a student at a special magical institute. There, he hides his identity as the nation’s top Magicmaster (out of over 100,000) and trains his successors—a pair of beautiful Magicmaster girls—while secretly continuing to fight Fiends.
