About Mononoke
Mononoke originated from the 2006 Ayakashi series story “Bakeneko” and became its own TV anime the following year. It follows the mysterious Medicine Seller, who travels across Japan to quell disturbances caused by Mononoke—spirits born from human emotions and grudges. Starting in 2024, a theatrical trilogy set in the Ōoku (the inner chambers of Edo Castle) began: Mononoke Movie: The Umbrella (July 2024), Mononoke Movie: Chapter 2 – Fire Rat (March 2025), and the final chapter Snake God, which has been in theaters since May 29, 2026.

The Medicine Seller design uses an original MAYLA textile woven with motifs from his outfit—patterns, a balance scale, talismans, backpack ornaments, and a mirror. The fabric is delicate and high-quality, with a paper-like texture and multi-layered coloring that evokes the interplay of fantasy and reality. It follows the color scheme from the film while hinting at the concepts of “form, truth, and reason.”
Shingi [WH]
The Shingi version combines her facial patterns, the halo of her exorcism sword, swirling clouds, and background motifs into a psychedelic, mysterious finish. The same refined fabric features subtle red bleeding like ink on Japanese paper, capturing the film’s uneasy yet beautiful fantastical atmosphere.
Design Details
Both skirts feature a ribbon on the back tied like an obi (kimono sash), adding an eerie elegance to the silhouette and a subtle Japanese touch. A metal charm at the waist evokes the Medicine Seller being guided toward Mononoke. A chain that can be hung from the back ribbon symbolizes the “connections” and “karma” in the story.
