The Kansai tour of the large-scale exhibition “Ghost in the Shell: Ghost and the Shell” will be held at the Hyogo Prefectural Museum of Art, Gallery Wing 3F, from July 17 to August 30, 2026. New information has arrived on exclusive merchandise for this leg, including items tied to the new anime series and a collaboration T-shirt with GEEKS RULE. Additionally, an interactive AI content piece called “Tachikoma AI” will appear on opening day.

Exhibition Overview
First serialized in 1989 by Mangaka Shirow Masamune in Kodansha’s Young Magazine Kaizokuban, Ghost in the Shell is a landmark sci-fi manga. It follows Major Motoko Kusanagi, a full-body cyborg leading the elite counter-cyberterrorist unit Section 9 against complex high-tech crime. Over the years, directors Oshii Mamoru, Kamiyama Kenji, Kase Kazuya, and Aramaki Shinji have each brought new dimensions to the franchise.
The exhibition, which previously drew about 80,000 visitors in Tokyo, offers a sweeping look across all Ghost in the Shell anime series, featuring over 1,600 real archival items. The Kansai edition faithfully recreates the core Tokyo displays while expanding on the world, characters, and original artwork from the new anime series “Ghost in the Shell: The Ghost in the Shell,” which begins broadcast in July. For longtime fans, the exhibition aims to be a place where memories connect; for newcomers, a single experience of the franchise’s current location.

Most of the over 100 original merchandise items sold at the Tokyo venue will be available again, along with several new products.

Newly added is a T-shirt featuring a collaboration between the “Fuchikoma” from the new anime “Ghost in the Shell: The Ghost in the Shell” and the “Tachikoma” from the first TV series “Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex.”

Also debuting domestically at this venue is a collaboration T-shirt between the new anime and GEEKS RULE, which will be handled during “KODANSHA HOUSE 2026 in LA” in Los Angeles from July 2 to 12.

Other notable new items include metallic bottles (water flasks) perfect for the hot season. More Kansai-exclusive products, including collaborations, are slated for future announcement.

Interactive AI: Tachikoma AI on Opening Day
On July 17, the opening day, the interactive AI content “Tachikoma AI” will appear in the venue. This experiential content combines a full-scale Tachikoma model (from “Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045”) set in a lab under maintenance, with a generative AI voice dialogue system. Visitors can enjoy conversations with Tachikoma while immersing in the work’s world.
The Tachikoma AI was developed by KDDI, employing the large language model “Google Gemini” with cooperation from Google Cloud. The voice is reproduced using the latest voice synthesis technology based on recordings of Tamagawa Sakiko, the voice actor for Tachikoma. Fans who want to talk about ghosts with Tachikoma are encouraged to visit on the first day.
The Kansai tour of “Ghost in the Shell: Ghost and the Shell” runs from July 17 to August 30, 2026, at the Hyogo Prefectural Museum of Art, Gallery Wing 3F. For details, visit the official website.
Implementation date: July 17 (Fri.). Note: The Tachikoma AI is not a permanent exhibit. Additional dates will be announced on the official website and social media once decided.
