The 16th and final episode of Youkoso Jitsuryoku Shijou Shugi no Kyoushitsu e 4th Season (Classroom of the Elite 4th Season) brought an announcement for a fifth season, along with a celebratory visual.
The first three seasons, adapting Shougo Kinugasa‘s school psychological light novel (also known as You-Zitsu), aired in Summer 2017, Summer 2022, and Winter 2024. The fourth season premiered on April 1 with a 90-minute special featuring the first four episodes. Crunchyroll streamed the first season with subtitles, while Funimation handled the English dub. Crunchyroll also simulcast the subsequent second, third, and fourth seasons.
The original light novel was published by MF Bunko J in 14 volumes between May 2015 and September 2019, with illustrations by Shunsaku Tomose (Ange Vierge). Kinugasa launched the 2-nensei-hen (Second-Year Arc) sequel series in January 2020, which concluded with its 15th volume in November 2024. He then began the 3-nensei-hen (Third-Year Arc) series in March 2025. Kadokawa published the fourth volume on May 25. The franchise has a cumulative 11.6 million copies in print, including digital editions.
Yuyu Ichino began a manga adaptation of the first light novel series in Monthly Comic Alive magazine in January 2016. Kadokawa shipped the 12th volume in February 2022. Shia Sasane launched a second manga adapting the sequel light novel in December 2021, which concluded in December 2024. A third manga adaptation titled Youkoso Jitsuryoku Shijou Shugi no Kyoushitsu e 2 2nd Stage by Hachi Komada began serialization in January 2025. Kadokawa released the second volume on April 23.
Seven Seas Entertainment licensed both the light novel and manga adaptation in English in July 2018 and June 2021, respectively.
