The upcoming summer anime adaptation of Saijo Shinji’s culinary battle manga Tetsunabe no Jan! has revealed a new main promotional video (the “Ura ver.”) that encapsulates the series’ dangerously appealing qualities, along with a key visual hinting at intense cooking battles. Additionally, voice actor Sugita Tomokazu has been cast as Bito Ryuji, a master of XO sauce, and the ending theme song has been announced as “Naita Akuma” by emunimini. The anime is set to premiere on July 5, 2026, on the TV Tokyo network (6 stations).
About the Series
Originally serialized in Weekly Shonen Champion, the manga has sold over 10 million copies worldwide. It follows the demonic Chinese chef Jan (Akiyama Shou), who will stop at nothing to defeat his opponents, using outrageous cooking techniques and pushing ethical boundaries. This marks the first TV anime adaptation of the legendary work, which has long been a cult favorite among culinary manga fans. Directed by Aoki Ei and produced by studio TROYCA, the series brings together a stellar cast and staff.
Main PV (Ura ver.) and Key Visual
The newly released Main PV (Ura ver.) features the food critic Ootani Nittou (voiced by Amada Masuo) himself commenting on Jan as his greatest rival. The video contrasts sharply with the previously released “Omote ver.” and has already sparked comments like “This might be too much for TV!” The key visual brings together the chefs who wield magical cooking skills, setting the stage for heated battles.
Additional Cast: Sugita Tomokazu as Bito Ryuji
Sugita Tomokazu plays Bito Ryuji, the first assassin sent by Ootani to challenge Jan. Sugita commented: “I followed the original manga in real time. I didn’t believe the anime adaptation at first. When I was cast as Ryuji, my excitement peaked. Awesome!”
Ending Theme by emunimini
The ending theme “Naita Akuma” by emunimini focuses on Jan’s demonic competitiveness and hidden vulnerability. emunimini commented: “I hope this song becomes a dessert that closes the hot story, a hidden flavor that enhances the work’s appeal. I sang each word with care for Jan’s feelings.”
Collaboration Events
From summer, a collaboration with Yokohama Chinatown will run from June 20 to July 18, with 33 participating shops offering fried rice menus and original stickers (two types, while supplies last). Also, from July 18 to October 12, a collaboration with “Toriju Chuu Izakaya Kome to Circus” at Takadanobaba and Shibuya PARCO stores will feature dishes inspired by the anime. Menu details will be announced on July 10.
Special Program: “Tetsunabe no Ryuji!”
On July 4, the day before the first broadcast, a special program titled “TV Anime Tetsunabe no Jan! Housou Kinen Tokuban: Tetsunabe no Ryuji!” will air on the same network. It features cooking researcher Ryuji, lead voice actor Togaya Kikunosuke, and comedian Yamada Koji (Time Machine 3). They will visit famous Chinese restaurants that recreated dishes from the manga, and Ryuji will demonstrate easy home versions of seafood fried rice, shrimp XO sauce stir-fry, and Chaliapin steak. The program airs at 9:30-10:00 AM on July 4, with a rebroadcast on July 5 at 4:25-4:55 PM.
