Fans of CLAMP and X JAPAN are celebrating as the long-lost anime music video for the collaborative project X2 (Double X) has been released for a limited time. The video, which combines CLAMP’s iconic manga X with music by X JAPAN, is now streaming on the official Aniplex YouTube channel until July 31, 2026 at 23:59 JST.
CLAMP is a creative group consisting of four members: Igarashi Satsuki, Ookawa Nanase, Nekoi, and Mokona. They debuted commercially in 1989 with RG VEDA and have since created numerous beloved series including Tokyo Babylon, X, Magic Knight Rayearth, Cardcaptor Sakura, Angelic Layer, Chobits, Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle, xxxHOLiC, Kobato., Gate 7, Drug & Drop, and Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card.
X JAPAN, formed in 1982, is a legendary band known for its visual style and hard sound that has influenced music across generations. They have performed 18 sold-out shows at Tokyo Dome, attracting over 1 million attendees. After reuniting in 2007, they toured worldwide, including historic performances at Madison Square Garden in 2014, Wembley Arena in 2017, and headlining Coachella in 2018.
The anime music video is taken from the 1993 video work X2 (Double X), which originally featured animation directed by Rintarou (renowned for many classic anime) with production assistance from Madhouse. It is considered a pioneering collaboration between manga animation and music artists. For years, the video was unavailable on any media or streaming service, making it a legendary lost work among fans. On June 10, 2026, a remastered version was released on Crunchyroll, and now it is available on YouTube for a limited time until July 31.
