About the TikTok First Half Trend Awards
Now in its sixth year, the TikTok First Half Trend Awards have been held annually since 2020. The awards recognize hashtags, keywords, music, food, entertainment (including film and anime), hit items, and creators that trended on TikTok during the first half of the year, based on in-app data and comprehensive evaluation.
Under the concept “From this trend, a new culture begins,” the 2026 awards selected trends that not only generated momentary buzz but also influenced people’s actions, conversations, and consumption during the first half of 2026. Artists, creators, and items that symbolized the period were honored.
Why Chou Kaguya Hime! Won
The Netflix anime film Chou Kaguya Hime! draws on Japan’s oldest tale, The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter, and features music by a stellar lineup of Vocaloid producers. It tells the story of girls connected through song. On TikTok, fan-created videos—including choreography set to the film’s songs, illustrations, cosplay, and clips highlighting memorable scenes—appeared daily. The award recognized the film for demonstrating a new model where the work and its fans together expand the ways to enjoy the story, starting from TikTok.
A video message from the protagonist Kaguya herself brought a warm atmosphere to the ceremony venue.
