The summer anime Rakudai Kenja no Gakuin Musou ~Nidome no Tensei, S-Rank Cheat Majutsushi Boukenroku~ is set to begin airing on July 1, 2026. Ahead of the premiere, the first episode synopsis and a set of preview images have been released.
Based on the manga by Shiraishi Shin (original story), Kentarou (art), and Uo Denim (character draft), the series is serialized on Square Enix’s Manga UP! platform and has surpassed 1.8 million copies in cumulative circulation. The story follows Eftal, a great sage who reincarnated from the modern world and devoted his life to magical research. After reaching the limits of his talent and dying in despair, he awakens 400 years later in a world where magic has declined. Carrying his past knowledge and magic, he sets out to dominate a magic academy alongside the slave girl Anastasia and his former disciple Merlin, the academy’s principal.
Directed by Ishii Hisashi, known for his work on Kuma Kuma Kuma Bear and Yuusha, Yamemasu, the animation is produced by EMT Squared, a studio that has frequently collaborated with Ishii.
Episode 1: “Raijin’ou -PROLOGUE-” Synopsis
After defeating the Demon King, Eftal is granted the title of “Raijin’ou” (Thunder God Emperor), one of the four strongest mage titles.
While everyone praises him, in his later years he is confronted with a cruel truth: he has no magical aptitude—he is a “non-aptitude” mage.
Unable to overcome the wall of talent through effort, he dies in despair without reaching the pinnacle of magic. However, he awakens in a future world where magic has declined.
Will his effort and obsession finally allow him to reach the top of magic? Eftal’s unmatched academy fantasy begins now.
The first episode will air on July 1, 2026 (Wednesday) on TOKYO MX, ABC TV, BS Fuji, and WOWOW.
