The upcoming TV anime Ghost in the Shell THE GHOST IN THE SHELL has revealed its opening theme: King Gnu’s “GO GHOST”. A new promotional video (PV 5th) featuring the song has also been released, showcasing protagonist Motoko Kusanagi and other Public Security Section 9 members.

Based on Shirow Masamune’s original manga serialized in Young Magazine Kaizokuban, the series is a cyberpunk action story. It follows the elite cybernetic unit “Koukaku Kidoutai” led by Major Motoko Kusanagi, a full-body cyborg with exceptional cyberbrain and combat abilities, as they confront increasingly complex and dangerous cybercrimes.

The opening theme “GO GHOST” is performed by King Gnu, the four-piece band consisting of Tsuneta Daiki, Seki Yuu, Arai Kazuki, and Iguchi Satoshi. The band has previously provided theme songs for various works. The ending theme has already been announced as “Blue” by MILLENNIUM PARADE. This marks the first time King Gnu and MILLENNIUM PARADE have handled theme songs for the same work.

The promotional video matches the fast-paced energy of the theme song, giving viewers a sense of the series’ grand world.
While new information continues to be revealed, the voice cast remains unannounced. Further updates are eagerly awaited.

Story
Wired bodies. Networked ghosts.
The year is 2029. In a near-future Japan where corporate networks cover the planet and electronics and light race through the air, but not yet so information-driven that nations and ethnicities have disappeared, full-body cyborg Motoko Kusanagi commands an elite unit including Batou. She desires the establishment of a special unit to prevent crime before it happens. A similar plan is conceived by Aramaki Daisuke of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, who recruits Kusanagi and her team. They begin operations as the public security section 9, the “Koukaku Kidoutai”. As they confront cybercrimes entangled in international conspiracies, an investigation leads them to the mysterious hacker “Puppet Master”. What fate awaits Kusanagi? And what is the Puppet Master’s goal? A new era of cyberpunk action begins!
