Summer Anime ‘Yoroi Shinden Samurai Trooper’ Second Cour Begins with New DST Commander Narumi Kaede Voiced by Hina Naoda; OP/ED Videos Released

The second cour of TV anime Yoroi Shinden Samurai Trooper has begun airing, and Episode 13 introduced a key new character: Narumi Kaede, the newly appointed DST commander. Her voice is provided by Hina Naoda. Alongside this announcement, non-credit opening and ending videos for the second cour have also been released.

The original Yoroi Den Samurai Trooper aired from April 1988 to March 1989, produced by Sunrise. It told the story of five boys with “Yoroi Gear” who unite to fight the evil Yōja army led by Emperor Arago. The franchise also spawned three OVA series and a manga adaptation by Hoshino Ryūichi in Comic Bonbon.

Yoroi Shinden Samurai Trooper is a direct sequel set in modern-day Shinjuku, featuring a completely original story. Directed by Fujita Yōichi (Gintama, Mr. Osomatsu), the anime is produced by Bandai Namco Filmworks’ Sunrise Studios. The five main Samurai Troopers are voiced by Yōsai Ishibashi (Gai), Jun’ya Enoki (Uesugi Kaito), Ayumu Murase (Hōjō Musashi), Shunsuke Takeuchi (Hōjō Yamato), and Kentarō Kumagai (Ishida Shion). The first cour premiered on January 6, 2026, and trended on X (formerly Twitter) with related keywords like “Samurai Trooper” and “Nasty.”

In the second cour, Narumi Kaede takes over as DST commander following the “Yōja no Ran” three months earlier. Described as a cool beauty, she brings a new dynamic to the restructured DST. Naoda Hina commented: “I am Hina Naoda, voicing Narumi Kaede. I am joining the series from the second cour as the DST commander! I approached the recording with joy at being part of this work and a good sense of tension from the weight of its history. Please look forward to both the responsible Kaede and the maiden-like Kaede.”

Character introductions for Rashinga in his human form and Oda Ryūsei wearing Tendōkai attire were also released alongside Episode 13.

Additionally, the non-credit OP and ED videos are now available. The opening theme “BAD Idenshi” by Dannie May shows the Samurai Troopers facing new enemies while also appearing in various outfits—suits, happi coats, and more—creating a colorful, pop festival atmosphere reminiscent of a school fair. Scenes of the characters preparing for a festival, playing in a band, and wearing maid costumes, as well as a dance sequence where both allies and enemies join in, are highlights.

The ending theme “Bakemon” by Karanoa starts with Gai’s sharp gaze. Set in a monochrome world where each character’s eyes hold a distinct color, the video shows the new Samurai Troopers with melancholic expressions, the opposing Tendōkai, the sharp-eyed Jūyūshi Namae-gumi, and the original Samurai Troopers standing resolutely. The result is a cool and stylish visual.

Blu-ray BOX volumes 3 and 4 for Yoroi Shinden Samurai Trooper have also been announced. First-press editions include an illustrated sleeve case by main character designer Yūhei Muroda, along with various store-specific illustrated bonuses. The sets will contain the intense story of the young Samurai Troopers as they grow through battle.
