Glasses Day: Anime!Anime! Asks, “Who is Your Favorite ‘Glasses’ Character?” – The Annual Survey Returns!
October 1st marks ‘Glasses Day’ in Japan. This special day was established in 1997 by the Japan Eyeglass-Related Organizations Council, inspired by how the kanji characters ‘一〇〇一’ (one, zero, zero, one) visually resemble a classic pair of spectacles.
In the captivating world of anime, characters sporting glasses are an incredibly common and beloved sight. Some individuals might be known for their distinctive habit of juggling multiple pairs of glasses, each for a different mood or purpose. Others might proudly don special, high-tech spectacles equipped with unique functions that aid them in their adventures. And let’s not forget those intriguing characters who undergo a dramatic personality shift the moment their glasses come off! Far from being merely a simple tool, glasses have truly evolved into a crucial and iconic item that vividly reflects a character’s unique personality, quirks, and hidden depths.
To celebrate this significant day and all the wonderful bespectacled characters out there, Anime!Anime! is thrilled to announce the return of its annual reader survey, playfully titled “Who is your favorite ‘Glasses’ Character?” We warmly invite all our readers to participate by sharing their top picks for glasses-wearing characters and the memorable works they hail from, in a free-response format. Your thoughts and passionate choices are what make this survey truly special!
※ Eligible characters for this survey include those who have appeared in 2D content such as anime (encompassing TV broadcasts, films, streaming series, OVAs, and more), games, CD drama series, and manga.
※ We kindly request that each person submits only one response to ensure fairness.
