The manga Reality Sometimes Lies (現実（リアル）もたまには嘘をつく) by Niichi has been announced for a TV anime adaptation, set to air in 2027.
Originally started as a doujinshi, the series is a heartwarming romantic comedy that follows a boy who is forced to cross-dress and a hikikomori (shut-in) girl. The manga gained massive popularity on X (formerly Twitter), where the author Niichi has over 520,000 followers. Published by KADOKAWA under the Chukei Comics imprint, eight volumes have been released so far, with the ninth and final volume scheduled for September 2026.
To celebrate the anime adaptation, Niichi-sensei provided a commemorative illustration and a comment.
