Web Manga ‘Real mo Tama ni wa Uso wo Tsuku’ Gets TV Anime in 2027

Manga creator Niichi announced on their official X account on Sunday that the web manga Real mo Tama ni wa Uso wo Tsuku (Sometimes Even Reality Is a Lie!) is receiving a television anime adaptation. The series is scheduled to premiere in 2027.

Niichi originally began posting the romantic comedy manga on their X (formerly Twitter) and Pixiv accounts in August 2018 under the title Game-zuki no Tomodachi to Iroiro suru Hanashi. Official serialization later launched under the Kitora comic label in July 2020. Kadokawa published the eighth volume on February 27, with the ninth and final volume set for release on September 16.

J-Novel Club licensed the manga in English in March 2022 and published the seventh volume on May 27.

Synopsis

Kaoru Terazaki is a young boy who uses a female character in an online game. He regularly plays with a virtual friend who goes by the username Nanami and uses a male avatar. Kaoru has been lying about his identity, and the two are about to meet in real life for the first time. When the day arrives, they discover that their expectations are far from reality. Contrary to Kaoru’s expectations, Nanami turns out to be a girl. With their true genders revealed, both are shocked—especially Nanami, who has already told her enthusiastic mother and overprotective father that a female friend is coming over. To cover up Kaoru’s real gender, Nanami comes up with a plan: crossdressing. Although their friendship began with lies, this unusual meeting marks the start of a unique bond.
