A new piece of merchandise from the theatrical film Chainsaw Man – Reze Arc brings the adorable chainsaw devil Pochita to life through a traditional Japanese craft. The Koushuu Inden gama-guchi (coin purse) features Pochita’s design rendered in lacquer on deerskin, blending anime charm with centuries-old artisan techniques.
Chainsaw Man Reze Arc Movie Success
The original Chainsaw Man manga by Fujimoto Tatsuki has surpassed 36 million copies in circulation worldwide. The first part was serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump (Shueisha), and the second part runs on Shonen Jump+ (Shueisha). The TV anime adaptation, produced by MAPPA, aired in October 2022 and has been streamed in over 200 countries and regions.
The theatrical film Chainsaw Man – Reze Arc (distributed by Toho) opened on September 19, 2025. It earned 10.8 billion yen domestically and 29.78 billion yen worldwide, and won the Animation of the Year award at the 49th Japan Academy Prize (2026). A sequel anime, Chainsaw Man – Assassin Arc, has already been announced.
Pochita-Inspired Koushuu Inden Coin Purse
The coin purse is made using the traditional Koushuu Inden technique, which involves dyeing tanned deerskin and painting patterns with lacquer. The material is soft, lightweight, and durable, and its texture changes the more it is used. Pochita is depicted in lacquer, with scale patterns reminiscent of Pochita’s tail and the starter rope on Chainsaw Man’s chest. Each piece is finished by hand, so the shade of the dye and the lacquer pattern vary slightly, giving every purse a unique look.
