The long-running manga series Shin Tennis no Ouji-sama (The Prince of Tennis II) will conclude with its 477th chapter in the September 2026 issue of Jump SQ., set for release on August 4, 2026. The announcement has sparked emotional reactions from creator Konomi Takeshi and voice actor Suwabe Junichi, who voices Atobe Keigo in the anime adaptation.
A 27-Year Legacy
Konomi Takeshi’s original Tennis no Ouji-sama manga began serialization in Weekly Shonen Jump (Shueisha) in 1999, centering on tennis prodigy Echizen Ryoma and his teammates at Seishun Academy. The series concluded in 2008, but a direct sequel, Shin Tennis no Ouji-sama, launched in Jump SQ. in March 2009. With the final chapter, the franchise closes a 27-year run that has seen over 60 million copies in circulation across domestic series, along with TV anime, films, musicals, and live-action adaptations.
Final Issue Gets Historic Reprint
Konomi Takeshi posted on X (formerly Twitter) about the final chapter, sharing a photo of the magazine and revealing that Jump SQ. had printed 165% more copies than usual for the September issue. He noted that this marks the first reprint in the magazine’s 19-year history. “I hope many people will smile,” he wrote. Fans responded with gratitude, with comments such as “I joined the tennis club in middle school because of Ryoma!” and “I’m about to cry… no, I’m already crying…”
Suwabe Junichi also posted about the reprint, encouraging fans who missed the initial release to look for the reprinted copies. His announcement drew joyful reactions, including “I’m so happy to hear about a reprint before the release date!”
Special Bonuses and Nationwide Exam
The September issue includes a commemorative CD—a first for Jump SQ.—and a mail-in offer for a mini replica manuscript set of the final chapter (B5 size). The set costs 4,500 yen (tax and shipping included) and requires the application coupon from the magazine. The application deadline has been extended to September 30, 2026 (postmark valid), with shipments expected in early January 2027.
Additionally, a “Nationwide Unified Test” for Shin Tennis no Ouji-sama will be held on September 23, 2026 (a national holiday). Participants can choose from four courses: a basic knowledge test, a face-recognition test (identifying characters by expression), a shot-recognition test, and a practical test where players return virtual tennis balls. Each test lasts 30 minutes except the practical (3 minutes).
