The official website for the Made in Abyss anime series has announced two new cast members, the theme song, and a third trailer for the upcoming movie Made in Abyss: Mezameru Shinpi (Awakening Mystery). The film is scheduled to open in Japanese theaters on October 23.

Theme Song
The theme song, titled “Chain of the Abyss,” is performed by Kevin Penkin featuring Mori Calliope (Gachiakuta). The track is previewed in the latest trailer.
Staff
Returning director Kojima Masayuki (Monster) is at the helm at Kinema Citrus. Kurata Hideyuki (Goblin Slayer) is writing the script, while Kise Kazuchika (Koukaku Kidoutai Arise) and Kuroda Yuka (Black Bullet main animator) are handling character design. Kevin Penkin (Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari) is back to compose the music.
Manga and Release
Made in Abyss adapts Tsukushi Akihito‘s adventure fantasy manga of the same name, which began serialization on the Web Comic Gamma website in October 2012. Takeshobo published the 14th volume in August 2025 and will release the 15th volume on August 26. Seven Seas Entertainment licensed the manga in English in 2017 and shipped the 14th volume on March 31. The manga has also been published in Chinese, Mandarin, and Korean.
