The first part of the Made in Abyss movie series, Made in Abyss: The Awakening Mystery, is set to hit theaters on October 23, 2026. A new trailer has been unveiled, offering a first listen to the theme song and introducing two new cast members.
Based on Akihito Tsukushi’s manga serialized in Takekomi!, Made in Abyss has surpassed 22 million copies in circulation. The story follows Riko, a young cave raider, and Reg, an amnesiac robot, as they explore the mysterious abyss. The new movie series continues the adventure, with Riko and her companions—Reg, Nanachi, and Faputa—venturing into the seventh layer.
The trailer showcases the group’s descent into the seventh layer, along with glimpses of new characters Tepaste and Kuravari. Tepaste will be voiced by Sumire Morohoshi, while Kuravari will be played by Takanori Hoshino.
The theme song, “Chain of the Abyss,” is composed by Kevin Penkin, who has been the series’ composer throughout, and features virtual artist Mori Calliope. The trailer includes a preview of the track.
Advance tickets with a special bonus—plushies of Maruruk and Prushka—are now available at select theaters from August 7 to August 20, 2026. These tickets are limited and will be sold while supplies last.
