The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is set to make its way into homes with a series of release announcements. Download pre-sale begins on August 19, 2026 (Wednesday), followed by rental distribution on September 16, 2026 (Wednesday). Additionally, 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD versions will hit shelves on October 16, 2026 (Friday).
About the Film
The film is a 3DCG animated movie based on the Super Mario games, produced by Illumination (known for Despicable Me and Sing) in collaboration with Nintendo. Directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, who previously teamed up for Teen Titans Go! To the Movies, with a script by Matthew Fogel (Minions: The Rise of Gru, The Lego Movie 2). The production is led by Illumination founder and CEO Chris Meledandri, alongside Nintendo Fellow Shigeru Miyamoto.
The English voice cast includes Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, and Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, all returning from the previous film. Newcomers to the series include Benny Safdie as Bowser Jr., Donald Glover as Yoshi, and Brie Larson as Rosalina.
Box Office Success
Released in 2023, the film achieved historic worldwide box office earnings of over $1.3 billion. In Japan, it has surpassed 7.9 billion yen at the domestic box office, ranking among the top domestic performances for foreign films released in 2026. It also holds the second-highest box office record for an Illumination film and the second-highest for a video game adaptation, tying with its predecessor The Super Mario Bros. Movie for the top two spots.
Japanese Dub Cast
The Japanese dub features returning voice actors from the previous film, including Mamoru Miyano as Mario, Aya Shida as Peach, Tasuku Hatanaka as Luigi, Kenta Miyake as Bowser, and Tomokazu Seki as Toad. New additions include Maaya Sakamoto as Rosalina and Daiki Yamashita as Bowser Jr., adding to the excitement of the galactic adventure.
