At Anime NYC 2026, Netflix pulled back the curtain on a slate of upcoming anime with fresh trailers, character showcases, and premiere dates. From the action-packed return of SAKAMOTO DAYS to the long-awaited follow-ups to Cyberpunk: Edgerunners and BLUE EYE SAMURAI, the streaming giant made it clear that 2027 will be a banner year for anime fans.
SAKAMOTO DAYS Season 2: New Characters Take the Spotlight
The second season of SAKAMOTO DAYS is set to premiere exclusively on Netflix in January 2027, with the first episode releasing simultaneously worldwide. Based on Yuto Suzuki’s battle action manga serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump, the series follows former legendary hitman Sakamoto Taro (CV: Sugita Tomokazu) as he fights to protect the peaceful life he built with his beloved family. Alongside his partner Asakura Shin (CV: Shimazaki Nobunaga), Sakamoto confronts a parade of assassins sent to take him down. In Season 2, the pair infiltrates JCC, a school for assassins, to gather intel on X (Slur), the mastermind behind a shadowy organization targeting killers.
The newly unveiled character PV highlights the fighting styles of fresh additions to the cast: JCC student Shu (CV: Toya Kikunosuke), veteran JCC teacher Satoda Etsuko (CV: Watanabe Misa), and Shisui? Actually, the character is Yotsumura (CV: Fuji Masahide), a former No. 2 in the assassin syndicate Saren. The video showcases these new players colliding at blistering speed, demonstrating their deadly skills in over-the-top action sequences.
In addition to the PV, an alternate version of the teaser visual was released. It retains the back-to-back composition of Sakamoto and Shin, but now Sakamoto holds a ballpoint pen while Shin clenches a gloved fist, each ready for battle. The background features the large text “Sakamoto no Hibi” (The Days of Sakamoto) with a black cloud motif, evoking a traditional Japanese aesthetic. The visual captures Sakamoto and Shin’s resolve as they embark on their infiltration of JCC, hinting at the fierce battles ahead and Sakamoto’s unwavering determination to preserve his “peaceful everyday life.” With a live-action film already drawing attention, the new season is poised to capture global interest.
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 Arrives October 20
Netflix announced that Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 will begin streaming exclusively worldwide on October 20. Set in the world of the video game Cyberpunk 2077, the series is produced by Trigger and follows a new group of street kids fighting for survival in the dark underbelly of Night City.
The teaser trailer introduces an entirely new cast of characters, stepping into the city’s most dangerous depths. This time, the future is portrayed even grittier and more ruthless, with lawlessness and cruelty dominating Night City like never before. The violence and bloodshed promise an even more chaotic ride. Even after countless brutal deaths, the city’s pulse continues to beat, and fresh encounters, betrayals, and conflicts are set to swirl once more. With a completely new lineup of protagonists, the story of “atonement” and “revenge” is one to watch closely.
BLUE EYE SAMURAI Season 2 Set for January 2027, Season 3 Confirmed as Final
BLUE EYE SAMURAI Season 2 will premiere exclusively on Netflix in January 2027. The series, written by Michael Green (Logan, Blade Runner 2049) and set in Edo-period Japan, follows a swordmaster of mixed foreign blood who plots revenge while hiding her true identity.
The teaser trailer offers a glimpse into the new season’s story. Additionally, Netflix announced that a third season is already in production and will be the final season. In Season 2, the lone swordswoman Mizu continues her vengeful journey. The trailer shows Mizu sailing through rough seas toward her enemy, declaring, “I choose revenge.” A mysterious shadow closes in on her, hinting that the path ahead will be anything but straightforward.
Bass X Machina: New Hero Rises November 3
Netflix also confirmed that Bass X Machina will stream worldwide starting November 3. The new animated series stars Brian Tyree Henry, known for his voice work in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, in the lead role and as executive producer.
The teaser trailer introduces Bass, a man who decides to fight for his beloved family in a world where a single slip means instant death. Inspired by the life of real-life legendary lawman Bass Reeves, the story unfolds in a lawless frontier where Bass must take on the roles of judge, jury, and executioner all by himself to protect his family. The footage shows Bass facing off against extraordinary enemies—a man wielding a machine gun, a steel bull, and giant robots—using only his cyborg arm. The trailer boldly heralds the birth of a new hero. Will Bass be able to take down the villains lurking everywhere on his own?
With such a diverse range of titles, Netflix continues to deliver stories that resonate across genres, generating global excitement. All eyes are on these upcoming works, which are sure to spark conversation and become cultural phenomena in their own right.
