TV Anime ‘Breath’ to Premiere on Noitamina in January 2027; Main Cast Announced

The TV anime adaptation of Yuki Sonoyama’s manga “Breath” is set to premiere in January 2027 on Fuji TV’s Noitamina programming block, it was revealed during the “Aniplex One Focus” stream on September 12. Alongside the announcement, a teaser visual by character designer Yokoyama Honoka and character PVs featuring the two leads were released, with Ono Tomoyuki cast as protagonist Udagawa Aia and Miura Chiyuki as Sumizaki Jun.
The story follows Udagawa Aia, a former model who once dreamed of becoming a makeup artist but gave up after being discouraged by those around her. Her classmate Sumizaki Jun is a quiet girl who tries to hide her tall height and freckles, slouching in public. Their entry into a school festival contest becomes the turning point that pushes them into the world of beauty.
The newly unveiled teaser visual, illustrated by Yokoyama, captures Sumizaki Jun’s eyes adorned with the elegant eye makeup crafted by Aia. The white casablanca lilies Jun holds carry the flower language of “purity” and “blessing,” symbolizing the strength and determination of the two girls as they step toward their aspirations. The visual conveys not only delicate beauty but also a powerful sense of resolve.

The main cast includes Udagawa Aia, a high school freshman and former model who had abandoned her dream of becoming a makeup artist, believing she lacked talent. Her decision to participate in the school festival contest reignites her passion for makeup.

Sumizaki Jun, also a high school freshman in Aia’s class, hides her tall stature and freckles at school but dreams of becoming a model. She continues to practice the walking techniques her mother taught her in secret.
Additional character PVs are scheduled to be released weekly, spotlighting the characters surrounding Aia and Jun. During the same stream, Ono and Miura participated in a segment with hair and makeup supervisor Katsuyoshi Kojima, expressing how they wanted to approach their roles through makeup. A director’s cut of that makeup session will be released at a later date.
