In celebration of the 40th anniversary of the original Chibi Maruko-chan manga, Shinagawa Prince Hotel is launching “Chibi Maruko-chan Hanten,” a wide-ranging collaboration that includes a concept room, an afternoon tea menu, lunch sets, and flower-shaped bread.
The Beloved Series at a Glance
Created by Sakura Momoko, Chibi Maruko-chan is set in Shimizu City, Shizuoka Prefecture (now Shimizu Ward, Shizuoka City), and follows Maruko (Sakura Momoko), the second daughter of the Sakura family and a third-grade elementary school student. The series warmly portrays everyday life with her family and friends—joyful, funny, and at times bittersweet.
The manga began serialization in Ribon (Shueisha) in 1986, marking its 40th anniversary in 2026. All 18 volumes of the original manga are in print, with cumulative sales surpassing 35 million copies including digital editions. The series has also been published in Asian countries and France. The TV anime started in 1990 and airs every Sunday at 6:00 p.m. on the Fuji Television network, with broadcasts across Chinese-speaking regions and other countries, endearing the show to fans of all ages worldwide.
Chinoiserie Concept Room
The concept room is located in the Annex Tower and features twin beds. Maruko and friends decorate the wallpaper, foot throws, cushions, and tablecloths, wrapping the space in an oriental chinoiserie ambiance. Guests will also find the complete Chibi Maruko-chan manga collection and a Bluetooth speaker in the room.
Guests staying overnight receive exclusive novelties: a drawstring pouch, a compact mirror, and a towel handkerchief, each designed with Maruko and friends dressed in chinoiserie-inspired outfits. Reservations open August 28 at noon, and stays run from October 1 through February 15, 2027. Rates start at 32,250 yen for one guest and 36,260 yen for two guests per room.
Chinese Cuisine at the Hotel
At Chinese Cuisine Shinagawa Daihanten, the “Chibi Maruko-chan Hanten Afternoon Tea” is now on offer. Guests can savor authentic Chinese dishes such as xiaolongbao and jade dumplings, along with autumn-themed sweets like chestnut tart and persimmon compote. Motifs of Maruko, Tama-chan, and Hanawa-kun are woven throughout, and each set includes an original “Chinoiserie Blue” placemat. Prices start at 6,000 yen.
The “Chibi Maruko-chan Hanten Lunch Set” is available for 5,000 yen, featuring classic chuka soba topped with char siu marked with Maruko’s brand, accompanied by almond tofu, Taiwan castella, and sesame balls. The chuka soba can also be ordered on its own for 2,000 yen.
Flower-Shaped Bread and Hotel-Wide Stamp Rally
Boulangerie Shinagawa will offer “Chibi Maruko-chan Hanten Flower-Shaped Bread” in blue and pink, each priced at 600 yen. The blue version nods to the pudding Maruko and Tama-chan adore, with custard cream and caramel cream filling. The pink version is generously packed with custard cream. Both are takeout-only and available from October 1 through November 23.
The hotel will also set up stamps at three locations: the Annex Tower Front Desk, Shinagawa Daihanten, and Boulangerie Shinagawa. Guests can collect event-exclusive designs across three periods, totaling nine types.
“Chibi Maruko-chan Hanten” lets fans immerse themselves in the world of Chibi Maruko-chan through lodging, dining, and exploring the hotel.
