Uo Toto's First Solo Exhibition 'UO10.' Opens at YURAKUCHO MUSEUM in December 2026

Manga artist Uo Toto’s first-ever solo exhibition, “Uo Toto Juunen-ten UO10.”, will be held at YURAKUCHO MUSEUM from Saturday, December 19, 2026 through Tuesday, February 23, 2027 (holiday).

Uo Toto has created numerous noteworthy works, including Chi. -Chikyuu no Undou ni Tsuite-, which has surpassed 5.7 million copies in cumulative circulation and reaches its sixth anniversary of serialization on September 14, 2026, as well as Hyakuemu., which gained attention through its theatrical animated film adaptation. His unique ideas for depicting grand themes, along with the skillful structure and direction that draw readers in, and the deep thinking and questions at the root of his works, have captivated a wide audience.

With Uo Toto himself participating as one of the organizers, the exhibition focuses on three works: Hyakuemu., Chi. -Chikyuu no Undou ni Tsuite-, and Youkoso! FACT (Toukyou S-ku Daini Shibu) e. It traces the path of creation accumulated from the starting point of his concepts, original drawings, and name (manga storyboards), to the thoughts that shaped the works and his unique staging of worlds.

Additionally, Uo Toto’s actual workspace will appear at the venue. He may even be seen creating his new serialization there, and the works produced on-site will be displayed at the venue in sequence. It is an unprecedented artist exhibition where visitors can witness, in real time, the process by which many thoughts become lines and transform into stories.

Details such as ticket sales and original merchandise will be announced in October.

Comment from Uo Toto

“This is an exhibition of 10 years since my manga debut. I say 10 years since my manga debut, but in my personal experience, it has been a little longer. I probably first drew something manga-like on copy paper when I was in first grade of elementary school. After that, in second grade, I wrote in a free notebook to pass the time, and I started submitting my work when I was 13 (at first, not knowing how it worked, I submitted on manuscript paper for text, not manga manuscript paper). From there, I made my commercial debut at 19 in 2017, and for the 10 years since, I’ve been living a life of drawing or not drawing manga.

“Ten years makes me a newcomer in this industry, and I face things I don’t understand every day. But I have one conviction: drawing manga is fun. Of course, there are many things that aren’t fun or are bothersome (in fact, more of those), but the joy of having fun drawing manga surpasses any other joy in life.

“This time, the team including myself considered what that joy really is.

“And although this is framed as an ‘artist exhibition,’ in terms of attitude, I wanted to express not only the inside of the works but also, just a little bit, the outside of them.

“For example, creation is always born from the union of ‘information’ that exists in someone’s head and the ‘infrastructure’ that supports and receives it. In the case of physical books, trees are cut down, become paper, and information is placed on it. It is distributed in some form and reaches readers. Furthermore, ‘people who make,’ ‘people who sell,’ and ‘people who read’ are not fixed; they take turns forming a scene. The important thing is that this whole series is an ‘ordinary’ act that anyone can participate in. (However, that ordinariness is a ‘miracle’ that barely comes to exist in a situation called ‘peace,’ which is made possible by various backgrounds overlapping.)

“And I thought that this is one part of the true nature of the joy of being able to be alone, and of the joy of being alone while still sensing other worlds—in other words, the joy of drawing manga.

“I think about 90% (?) of the people who come to the exhibition have never drawn manga. But I’d be glad if you could feel how easy, inexpensive, and exciting that act is. (However! Those outside exhibitions are really just a little! 90% is proper exhibition of works!) With that, I’m looking forward to your visit!”
