Hitsujibungaku and Quruli Co-Create Opening and Ending Themes for TV Anime ‘Kaze o Tsugu Mono’

Rock bands Hitsujibungaku and Quruli have joined forces to create the opening and ending theme songs for the upcoming TV anime Kaze o Tsugu Mono, scheduled to air in January 2027. The collaboration also extends to the theatrical pre-release Kaze o Tsugu Mono – Hajimari –, which opens on November 13, 2026.

The opening theme, titled “Kaze o Tsugu Mono,” is credited to Quruli + Hitsujibungaku, while the ending theme and theatrical theme song, “Namida no Kawa,” is credited to Hitsujibungaku + Quruli. Both tracks are released under the label F.C.L.S. / Sony Music Labels, with vocals by Shizukusa Moeka of Hitsujibungaku.

“Namida no Kawa” will be released digitally on October 12. Pre-add and pre-save options are already available on Apple Music and Spotify, with an original smartphone wallpaper offered as a pre-order bonus. A trailer for the theatrical version featuring this track has also been unveiled.

In another first, Quruli member Kishida Shigeru is handling the background music for a TV anime for the first time. He has composed over 50 tracks, drawing from a wide range of influences such as Gion festival music, European classical music from Japan’s isolation era, pre-dawn jazz, and contemporary soundscapes. Kishida describes the score as a “comprehensive music picture scroll” that embodies the world of Kaze o Tsugu Mono.

Kishida Shigeru’s Comments

On the two theme songs, Kishida explained that “Namida no Kawa” is a reconstruction of Hitsujibungaku’s musical world with a multiverse-inspired approach, while “Kaze o Tsugu Mono” features a vast sound from Quruli with vocals that run like a sheep through it.

He also emphasized that the two songs were created under the respective artist names Quruli + Hitsujibungaku and Hitsujibungaku + Quruli, with Shizukusa Moeka handling vocals for both.

Hitsujibungaku’s Comments

Hitsujibungaku shared their excitement about the project: after seeing footage with the background music, they already recognized it as a work filled with wonderful music. For the ending theme, they aimed to capture the freshness of emotions of the people living in the story. They also reflected on working with Kishida, noting that his arrangements went beyond their expectations and offered many thrilling moments. When singing the opening, they imagined the scenery of the end of the Edo period. The band added that Kaze o Tsugu Mono is truly a deep story and they are looking forward to seeing what it asks of viewers.

The anime Kaze o Tsugu Mono is a period drama about the Shinsengumi, with a script by playwright Narui Yutaka and directed by Kawamura Tomohiro. The story follows a rōshi (samurai) named Tachikawa Jinsuke who has lost his memory and meets his comrades in the Miburoshi group as he navigates the turbulent end of the Edo period. Aniplex is behind the original work, and the production combines Live2D and cel animation to create a new visual style. The cast includes Sakuma Daisuke, Kaji Yuki, Uchiyama Kouki, Nakamura Yuuichi, Aoi Yuki, and Kase Yasuyuki. Kamikawa Takaya will make a special guest appearance in the theatrical version.

Hitsujibungaku is currently on their largest nationwide hall tour, “Hitsujibungaku TOUR 2026 ‘su— ha—‘,” covering Fukuoka, Okayama, Ishikawa, Osaka, and Hokkaido, with two performances at the National Yoyogi Stadium First Gymnasium in November, plus additional shows in Taiwan and Kaohsiung.

Since their major debut in 2020, the band’s song “more than words,” featured as the ending theme for the second season of Jujutsu Kaisen (the “Shibuya Incident” arc), has surpassed 200 million streams worldwide. This June, they also won the Best Alternative Song award at the MUSIC AWARDS JAPAN.
