A new television anime adaptation of Kariya Tetsu‘s Oishinbo manga has been announced. Titled Shin Oishinbo, the project was revealed during the Shin-Ei Animation 50th Anniversary special stage at the ABEMA Anime Festival 2026 on Saturday, along with a promotional video.
Background
The original Oishinbo manga began serialization in Shogakukan’s Big Comic Spirits magazine in 1983, with Kariya writing and Hanazaki Akira providing the art. Shogakukan released the 111th volume in December 2014, and the manga has been on hiatus since May 2014.
VIZ Media licensed the manga for English release and published seven themed compilation volumes under its VIZ Signature imprint from January 2009 to January 2010.
Shin-Ei Animation previously produced a television anime based on the manga, which ran for 136 episodes from October 1988 to March 1992.
