Shin-Ei Animation, the studio behind Doraemon and Crayon Shin-chan, announced during its 50th anniversary special stage at ABEMA Anime Festival 2026 on September 19, 2026, that it is producing a new TV anime titled Shin Oishinbo and new episodes of Atashin’chi NEXT.
Shin Oishinbo Marks a Return of the Ultimate Food Anime
Based on the gourmet manga Oishinbo by Kariya Tetsu and Hanasaki Akira, serialized in Shogakukan’s Weekly Big Comic Spirits, Shin Oishinbo is the first TV anime adaptation since the original series aired from October 1988 to March 1992, also produced by Shin-Ei. More than three decades later, the “ultimate” food anime is set to return.
The story follows Tozai News culture department reporters Yamaoka Shiro and Kurita Yuko as they develop the “Ultimate Menu,” while the rival newspaper Teito Shimbun, under the guidance of Kaibara Ukyo who heads the Gourmet Club, proposes the “Supreme Menu.” The clash between the two menus, and the father-son rivalry between Yamaoka and Kaibara played out through cooking, will be reimagined in the new anime.
To celebrate the announcement, a special video titled “Oishinbo Nyuumon: Kessaku Episode Matome” will premiere on the official YouTube channel on September 25 at 8:00 p.m. (JST).
Atashin’chi NEXT Gets New Episodes with New Director
Kera Eiko’s home comedy manga Atashin’chi has spawned the fully new anime series Atashin’chi NEXT, which began in 2024, roughly eight years after the earlier Shin Atashin’chi. The show centers on the Tachibana family—mother, father, high schooler Mikan, and middle schooler Yuzuhiko—and the humorous, relatable everyday events that unfold with family and friends.
The newly announced episodes of Atashin’chi NEXT will be directed by Kimura Taku, known for the TV anime Yani Neko. Returning cast members include Watanabe Kumiko as Mother, Orikasa Fumiko as Mikan, Sakaguchi Daisuke as Yuzuhiko, and Ogata Kenichi as Father.
