JR East’s iconic Suica no Penguin is set to hold its final merchandise fair at GranSta Tokyo, the in-station shopping complex at JR Tokyo Station. Running from September 23 to October 21, 2026, the event will feature 24 products, including 10 brand-new items and GranSta-exclusive merchandise.
Suica no Penguin, a little Antarctic visitor known for its love of fish sausages, has been a companion to Suica card users since the IC card’s debut in 2001. Based on an Adélie penguin, the character is meant to act as a commuter’s alter ego on their card. However, JR East has announced that the penguin will ‘take off to a new place’ at the end of fiscal year 2026, which falls in March 2027. To prepare for this transition, the company began a public vote on September 8 to select a new character design from three final candidates, bringing renewed attention to the current mascot.
This final fair at GranSta Tokyo is a celebration of the penguin’s legacy, filled with items that express gratitude and fond memories.

The lineup includes a variety of sweets designed with the charming penguin, such as butter sandwiches carrying messages like ‘Thank you’ and ‘Good work,’ along with baked goods, manju, castella, and more. These treats are perfect for fans who want to savor the character one last time.
