The Jaku-Chara Tomozaki-kun light novel series will conclude with its 12th volume. Author Yaku Yuuki’s official X account announced on Wednesday that the final volume is scheduled for release on October 16.
Yaku originally began the romantic comedy after winning the Excellence Award at the 10th Shougakukan Light Novel Award with Manten Kazari no Ganbariron! in March 2016. Shougakukan later published the light novel under its Gagaga Bunko imprint in May 2016, featuring illustrations by Fly. The 11th volume was released in January 2024. The series had a cumulative 1.2 million copies of its volumes in circulation as of January 2021.
Manga and Spin-Off
Chida Eight serialized a manga adaptation in Monthly Gangan Joker from December 2017 to February 2021. Square Enix published the sixth and final volume in April 2021.
A spin-off manga titled Nanami Minami wa Kagayakitai, drawn by Yoshida Bana, began serialization on the MangaONE app and in Monthly Sunday Gene-X in July 2020. Shougakukan released the third volume in January 2023.
English Releases
Yen Press licensed the light novel and the spin-off manga in English in November 2018 and November 2021, respectively. The 11th light novel volume went on sale in April 2025, while the third spin-off manga volume was released in February 2024. Comikey licensed the manga digitally in English in November 2021.
Awards and Anime
Jaku-Chara Tomozaki-kun ranked in the top 10 of the tankoubon division in Kono Light Novel ga Sugoi! for five consecutive years from 2017 to 2021, and placed ninth in the overall rankings for the 2010s.
Project No.9 produced the 12-episode first season of the television anime, which aired in Winter 2021. A second season, Jaku-Chara Tomozaki-kun 2nd Stage, also produced by Project No.9, aired in Winter 2024 with 13 episodes. Crunchyroll streamed the anime with subtitles in multiple languages and an English dub.
