Kadokawa and Marvel Comics have announced a new project, MARVEL｜KADOKAWA. The initiative will produce original manga titles, including works featuring Spider-Man and Spider-Gwen. The first wave consists of five titles, which will be announced in sequence and are scheduled to begin serialization on the manga site Kadocom within 2026.
The project was announced on July 25, 2026, during the Marvel Fanfare panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2026 in the United States. C.B. Cebulski, former editor-in-chief of Marvel Comics and now Marvel Asia editorial lead, took the stage and introduced the framework for the initiative, which centers on new original manga based on Marvel properties.
Spider-Man: A New Hero in Shibuya
Spider-Man is one of the first titles, though its official title has yet to be decided. The manga will be drawn by tokitokoro, known for work on Jeff The Land Shark. The story follows Hachidori Haruto, a male high school student living in Shibuya. One day, Haruto suddenly gains an unknown “spider ability.” As Spider-Man, he swings freely through the streets of Shibuya—but as he springs into action, a “shadow” lurking in the city begins to move.
Spider-Gwen: A Drummer Turned Spider-Woman
Spider-Gwen is also currently untitled. The manga will be handled by Yamada Ryuusei, who drew Captain Marvel for the MARVEL SWIMSUIT SPECIAL. The story centers on Gwen Stacy, an ordinary high school student who also plays drums in the band “Mary Janes.” After being bitten by a radioactive spider in a laboratory, she gains superhuman powers. Gwen chooses to protect the peace of her city as Spider-Woman, but behind that decision await harsh choices and personal conflict.
2026 Serialization on Kadocom and Print Volumes
All titles are set to begin serialization on the manga site Kadocom within 2026, with print volume releases planned afterward. The project is being developed with the aim of appealing both to Marvel Comics fans and to readers familiar with Japanese manga storytelling.
