The third season of Kusuriya no Hitorigoto has released the synopsis and advance scene cuts for Episode 49, titled ‘Inago’ (蝗). The episode is scheduled to begin airing on Friday, October 2, 2026.
Based on Hyuuga Natsu’s light novel series published by Imagica Infos under the Hero Bunko label, Kusuriya no Hitorigoto is a mystery-solving entertainment that has surpassed 57 million copies in cumulative worldwide circulation. Set in the rear palace, the story follows Maomao, a young poison tester who solves a variety of difficult cases. Its sharp heroine, full-fledged mysteries, exotic worldview, and human drama have earned it fans across generations and around the world.
After Season 1 aired from October 2023 to March 2024 and Season 2 aired from January to July 2025, Season 3 moves the story from the rear palace to the city streets. The season introduces a mysterious shrine maiden who leads people astray with signs of a disaster threatening the country, as well as the duty imposed on Jinshi as the emperor’s younger brother. Maomao and Jinshi now face new trials.
Fudesaka Akinori directs the anime at OLM. The cast includes Yuuki Aoi as Maomao, Ootsuka Takeo as Jinshi, Konishi Katsuyuki as Gaoshun, Tachibana Tatsumaru as Basen, Toyonaga Toshiyuki as Rahan, Uchiyama Kouki as Rikuson, Fujiwara Natsumi as Chou U, Ueda Reina as Byakunyan, and Shimamoto Sumi as the narrator.
Episode 49 ‘Inago’ Synopsis
With the aftermath of the Shi no Ichizoku rebellion settled, Maomao has been removed from her role as a poison tester in the rear palace and has returned to her life as an apothecary in the pleasure district. Meanwhile, Jinshi, who has publicly revealed that he is the emperor’s younger brother, formally takes part in government affairs. He is troubled by the ‘omen of a disaster that will strike the country’ that Rouran entrusted to him at the end.
One morning, Maomao and Chou U are served simmered locusts as breakfast by the shrewd proprietress of Ryokushoukan. After taking a single bite, Chou U brings up something that bothers him…
