About “Sousou no Frieren”

For those who might be new to the journey, “Sousou no Frieren” is a critically acclaimed anime based on the manga of the same name. The series is serialized in Weekly Shonen Sunday (published by Shogakukan), with the original story by Yamada Kanoto and art by Abe Tsukasa. It’s a global phenomenon, having sold over 32 million copies worldwide.

The story picks up in the aftermath of a classic fantasy adventure—after the Demon King has been defeated. It follows the millennia-old elf mage Frieren. Triggered by the death of her former companion, the hero Himmel, she embarks on a deeply personal journey to understand the human heart and the passage of time.

A Smash Hit with More to Come

The TV anime adaptation aired from September 2023 to March 2024 and quickly became a cultural touchstone. Fans were captivated by its blend of heartfelt drama, memorable quotes, laugh-out-loud moments, and breathtaking magical battles. It consistently trended on social media, and the hype is only building. The eagerly awaited Second Season is officially scheduled to premiere in January 2026!

So, what does this collaboration look like? The designs feature super-deformed (SD) versions of the Sousou no Frieren characters paired with iconic Kumamoto motifs. Imagine Frieren and her friends holding items like ikidango (sudden dumplings), Higo temari (traditional handballs), or tomatoes (Kumamoto is Japan’s top producer!).
