New Anime Project Announced for Kochira Katsushika-ku Kameari Kouen Mae Hashutsujo’s 50th Anniversary
To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the manga Kochira Katsushika-ku Kameari Kouen Mae Hashutsujo, the launch of a new anime project has been announced, and it will be produced under the title Shin Kochira Katsushika-ku Kameari Kouen Mae Hashutsujo. Along with the announcement, the new anime logo and teaser visual have been released.
Known by the beloved abbreviation “Kochikame”, Kochira Katsushika-ku Kameari Kouen Mae Hashutsujo is a slapstick human comedy manga drawn by Akimoto Osamu. It follows the antics of the unconventional and money-loving police officer Ryotsu Kankichi (nicknamed Ryotsu-san) and his colleagues as they cause chaos primarily in Katsushika-ku Kameari. The serialization kicked off in September 1976 in Weekly Shounen Jump and ran weekly for an impressive 40 years until 2016.
This series has been adored by fans through various media expansions, including anime and live-action dramas. Next year, in 2026, it hits the big 5-0 for its serialization start. To celebrate, the new anime project was unveiled at the “Jump Festa 2026” Jump Station stage, featuring special guests Impossible and Hiru-chan.
Fresh Title and Logo Unveiled
At the stage, fans got a double treat: not only the manga’s sleek 50th-anniversary logo but also the full reveal of the new anime project’s title, Shin Kochira Katsushika-ku Kameari Kouen Mae Hashutsujo, complete with its own shiny new logo.
A Revamp with New Cast and Trusted Studio
True to its “Shin” (new) label, Shin Kochikame will welcome a fresh cast to breathe new life into the series. It was also confirmed that Gyaroppu, the studio behind the beloved 1996 anime adaptation, is back at the helm and hard at work on production—a reveal that sent waves of excitement through the audience.
Adding to the hype, a teaser visual has dropped, featuring an illustration sure to tug at longtime fans’ heartstrings. It depicts the familiar scenery of the current Katsushika-ku Kanamachi Water Purification Plant intake tower, with Ryotsu Kankichi raising his hand in a cheerful, greeting-like pose.
