Ginga Tokkyuu Mirukii☆ Sabuuei: A Global Sensation
So, what’s the deal with the winning anime? Ginga Tokkyuu Mirukii☆ Sabuuei has been making waves far beyond Japan. It’s distributed on YouTube in a whopping 11 languages, including Japanese, which has racked up serious overseas attention. The hype is only growing, as a theatrical release is locked in for February 6, 2026. It’s the perfect recipe for an award-winning hit.
Director’s Corner: Kameyama Youhei Speaks
The award ceremony had a special guest: the director himself, Kameyama Youhei. He’s not just the mind behind this winner; he also directed the music video for the second cour theme song of the anime Gachi Akuta (which can be translated as “Serious Act”), marking him as a creator to watch.
Kameyama-san was genuinely surprised and thrilled by the win, saying, “I didn’t think we could win an award.” He shared his creative philosophy: “Since it’s a dialogue-driven drama, I was careful to make the characters look like living, breathing humans,” and emphasized, “I made sure the visuals were always worth watching.”
He also reflected on the unique challenge of the short anime format, noting it’s perfect for today’s fast-paced world. “With 3 and a half minutes, it becomes a battle for every second in how to wrap it up. It’s difficult to create a satisfying beginning, development, turn, and conclusion that feels good to watch,” he confessed.
When asked about the toughest part of production, he gave an honest look behind the scenes: “I understand how to make the visuals, but gathering people was tough.” And about the upcoming movie? He hinted at the hustle: “It’s like a struggle… this time there are additional parts, but I’m making all of that by myself.”
