Manga Reaches Its Final Chapter
Big news for fans of Hotaru no Yomeiri (also known as Firefly Wedding): the series is wrapping up for good. The editor of Tachibana Oreco‘s hit manga announced that the story will conclude with its 79th chapter, scheduled for release on February 2.
New Spin-offs on the Horizon
But it’s not all endings! MangaONE, the platform where the manga runs, also revealed plans for two new spin-off stories. First up is Koi to Doku (Love and Poison), a two-part tale with part one landing on February 2 and part two following on March 2.
Additionally, a five-chapter spin-off titled Hotaru no Yomeiri Gaiden – Hitokiri to Youdou (Firefly Wedding Spin-off: The Assassin and the Child) will kick off with its first chapter on April 6, giving fans more adventures in this universe to enjoy.
A Look Back at the Manga’s Journey
Tachibana Oreco began serializing Hotaru no Yomeiri on MangaONE in January 2023, and it quickly captured readers’ hearts. Shogakukan published the tenth volume on December 19, and the series has achieved an impressive cumulative circulation of 3.5 million copies—a testament to its popularity.
English Release Details
For international audiences, VIZ Media licensed the manga for English publication in May 2024. They’ve already released the fourth volume on October 14, with the fifth volume planned for a January 27 release, keeping English-speaking fans up to date.
Anime Adaptation in the Works
There’s even more to look forward to! David Production, the studio behind beloved series like JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, is adapting Hotaru no Yomeiri into a television anime. It’s currently slated to air in Fall 2026, so anime enthusiasts have something exciting on the horizon.
What’s Hotaru no Yomeiri About?
The story centers on Kirigaya Satoko, the eldest daughter of the honorable Kirigaya family. Despite her beauty attracting many suitors, she rejects all marriage proposals due to a secret heart defect. Hoping to ease her father’s concerns, she remains willing to find a husband.
During a walk, Satoko is kidnapped by mercenaries, including the legendary assassin Gotou Shinpei, who is tasked with killing her. After a failed bribe attempt, Satoko makes a desperate gamble: she pretends it’s love at first sight and proposes marriage.
To her surprise, Gotou accepts and vows to protect her. As they escape together, Satoko must maintain her ruse while trying to understand the enigmatic man she’s now eloped with.
