Get Ready for the Ultimate “Koukaku Kidoutai” Experience!
The first-ever large-scale exhibition spanning all anime series of Koukaku Kidoutai (also known as Ghost in the Shell), titled “Koukaku Kidoutai Ten Ghost and the Shell,” is set to take place from January 30 to April 5, 2026, at TOKYO NODE in Toranomon Hills, Tokyo. Hold onto your cyberbrains, because the second wave of special events during the exhibition has just been revealed, and it’s nothing short of spectacular!
Kicking things off with a deep-dive talk between director Kamiyama Kenji and Miyata Yasuaki, the venue will host a total of 30 in-venue events, including talk sessions and music live performances. With over 90 top-tier artists and creators like Matayoshi Naoki, Uotoyo, Ochiai Yoichi, YOSHIROTTEN, and Manabe Daito gathering, this is a moe-ment for tech and art fans alike!

Why This Exhibition Matters Now More Than Ever
Since its birth in 1989, Koukaku Kidoutai has blown minds worldwide with its cutting-edge visions of cyberization, cyberbrains, and AI, constantly asking that timeless question: “What does it mean to be human?” With the in-story world set in 2029 just around the corner, the future it painted—think AI saturation and the cloud era—is rushing into our reality faster than a tachikoma on a mission. The anime series, helmed by legendary directors like Oshii Mamoru, Kamiyama Kenji, Kise Kazuchika, and Aramaki Shinji, has kept pushing boundaries, always staying ahead of the curve with diverse storytelling.

This exhibition isn’t just a look back at 37 years of history; it’s a bold move to separate Ghost (spirit/consciousness) and Shell (body/vessel), digging into the core of what makes Koukaku Kidoutai so profound. In a world where fiction and reality are blending, what do we feel is our “ghost,” and where do we draw the line with our “shell”? This event throws that question right at you, offering a fresh lens to ponder the future.
Event Programs: More Than Just a Walk-Through
To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the anime adaptation, the exhibition goes beyond static displays with a dynamic program that brings the world of Koukaku Kidoutai to life through dialogue, music, and visual arts.
DIALOGUE of Ghost and the Shell: Talks That Cut Deep
The talk series “DIALOGUE of Ghost and the Shell” will feature around 20 sessions during the exhibition. Alongside Kamiyama Kenji and Miyata Yasuaki, expect insights from cultural icons like VERBAL and Uotoyo, covering everything from artificial life and generative AI to music, fashion, and narrative. It’s a brainy feast for the intellectually curious!

REFLEX of Ghost and the Shell: Nighttime Vibes and Visuals
Get ready for the weekend night museum “REFLEX of Ghost and the Shell”, a four-part series that turns the gallery into an immersive playground. The second installment promises a killer collaboration between YOSHIROTTEN (who designed the 30th-anniversary logo) and Manabe Daito. Part three will heat things up with a special live set by Minna-no-Kimochi, while part four teams up with MUTEK.JP for an audio-visual extravaganza. Stay tuned for more performer details!

MUSIC BAR “FIRN”: Step Into the World of S.A.C.
For four days only, dive into the S.A.C. universe with the “MUSIC BAR ‘FIRN'” event. This reproduction brings a music bar from the city of Niihama—the setting of S.A.C.—right into the gallery. Featuring “android” costumes designed by Ilya Kuvshinov (character designer for Koukaku Kidoutai SAC_2045), the concierges will be played by Tsunko/Kuroha. Plus, added beats from FPM, orbtlstrk, and Terada Soichi will keep the atmosphere electric.

DEEP DIVE / Koukaku Kidoutai in TOKYO NODE: A Circuit of Wonders
Mark your calendars for March 7, when “DEEP DIVE / Koukaku Kidoutai in TOKYO NODE” takes over multiple venues like halls and galleries within TOKYO NODE. This first-ever special circuit event is shrouded in mystery, so watch for updates on details and tickets!

Extra Collaborations and Artistic Flair
But wait, there’s more! The exhibition will also showcase works from six collaborating artists, including Ikegami Takashi, Katayama Mari, Kusano Emi, Sorayama Hajime, UNLABELED, and ANREALAGE’s Morinaga Kunihiko. It’s a fusion of styles that’ll make any art lover’s ghost sing.
