Sanrio Characters Get a Retro Makeover with Secret Flip Phone Lip Gloss Palettes

Sanrio has launched a new cosmetic item that’s equal parts nostalgic and adorable: the “Secret Flip Phone Lip Gloss Palette,” featuring designs of beloved Sanrio characters on a retro cell phone motif. Available since April 22, 2026 (Wednesday) at variety stores nationwide and on the official Shoubido online store, this collectible lip gloss set is already turning heads.

Sanrio is currently in the middle of its 41st annual character popularity contest, the “2026 Sanrio Character Ranking,” and also celebrating 60 years since its founding. The final venue of the traveling “Sanrio Exhibition,” which has visited 19 cities nationwide and drawn over 850,000 visitors, is now open at the Mori Arts Center Gallery (Roppongi Hills Mori Tower, 52nd floor) until June 21.

The new product we’re spotlighting here is a lip gloss palette shaped like a classic flip phone (or “galapagos keitai,” as they’re affectionately called in Japan). The packaging comes in four color variations: pink, purple, blue, and orange.

A Galaxy of Characters

The pink palette features five characters: Hello Kitty, My Melody, Sugar Bunnies, Kogimyun, and Marron Cream. The purple version is adorned with three characters: Kuromi, Little Twin Stars, and Bad Badtz-Maru.

For the blue palette, you’ll find Cinnamoroll, Tuxedo Sam, and Pochacco. The orange palette spotlights Pompompurin, Pekkle, Korokoro Kuririn, and Usahana. In total, there are 15 different Sanrio character designs, and since the packaging is blind-box style, you won’t know which character you get until you open it – adding to the thrill of collecting them all!

Compact, Cute, and Fully Functional

The palette itself is shaped like a tiny flip phone and comes with a carabiner, so you can clip it onto your bag as a keychain or accessory. Inside, you’ll find seven different lip gloss shades infused with moisturizing ingredients such as jojoba oil, hyaluronic acid, and squalane. That means it’s not just a cute collectible – it’s a genuinely useful beauty item for keeping your lips hydrated.
