A collaboration commemorating the 60th anniversary of both Shouten and the Ultraman series has been realized. It has been revealed that Ultraman and Kanegon will appear on the May 17, 2026 broadcast of Shouten.
Shouten first aired on television on May 15, 1966. Around the same time, on July 10, 1966, Ultraman also made its first television appearance. Since then, both have always walked with the times, sometimes stirring hearts, delivering “courage,” “hope,” and “compassion.” Ultraman, as a hero who stands by people, has protected the peace of Earth, while Shouten, as a comedy hero, has protected the peace of Japan’s living rooms. And at this milestone, the two will co-star for the first time in the “Oogiri” segment that Shouten has continued unchanged for 60 years.
On the 15th, the day of Shouten‘s 60th anniversary broadcast, the official Shouten X account posted a congratulatory message to the Ultraman series for its 60th anniversary. In response, Tsuburaya Productions’ official X account also posted congratulations to Shouten, exchanging cheers.

Image posted from the program’s official X on May 15 (Shouten broadcast 60th anniversary), with Tsuburaya Productions compositing the cityscape.
The image posted from Shouten‘s official X featured a special visual of Shouten members posing with the Specium ray stance, set against a composited cityscape from the Ultraman series (worldview) by Tsuburaya Productions.
In the image posted from Tsuburaya Productions’ official X, there was Ultraman posing with the Specium ray on the stage (worldview) of Shouten, and a monster holding a cushion that was partially cut off at the edge. This has now been revealed to be the coin monster Kanegon. It will be interesting to see what role Kanegon will play in the program. Furthermore, it is possible that “that certain person” who has appeared in both Shouten and Ultraman may also crash the event.
Regarding the special Oogiri that can only be seen at this 60th anniversary milestone, host Shunputei Shouta commented, “I never imagined that Ultraman and Kanegon would come to Shouten. It’s an Oogiri that you don’t get to see often, so please look forward to it.”
■ Shunputei Shouta’s Full Comment
