As a popular mainstay of Shueisha’s Weekly Young Jump, the manga Kingdom is currently running various projects to commemorate the 20th anniversary of its serialization in January 2026. As part of this, a four-month consecutive Kingdom BOX SET publication began on May 19, starting with “1: Royal Capital Retake Arc – Battle of the Hebi Plain.”
Kingdom is a Chinese Warring States period historical epic by Yasuhisa Hara, serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Young Jump since January 2006. Set in the Spring and Autumn period of China, it follows the exploits of the boy Shin, who aims to become the greatest general under heaven, and the young king Ei Sei, who would later become the First Emperor. The first collected volume was released in May 2006, and the total cumulative print run (including digital editions) has exceeded 120 million copies.
Kingdom has also been adapted into a TV anime; the sixth series, which aired from October to December 2025, followed Qin’s assault on the great state of Ye as it moved toward uniting China and establishing a new “rule of law” nation. The live-action film series, directed by Shinsuke Sato and starring Kento Yamazaki (崎 is “tatsusaki”) in the lead role, saw its fourth installment The Return of the Great General (released in 2024) become a major hit with box office revenue of 8 billion yen. The fifth film, Decisive Battle of the Soul, will be released on July 17.
