“Lupin Sansei”: Prequel to the Latest Film, “Zenigata to Futari no Lupin,” Reveals Horiuchi Kenyuu as Fake Lupin, PV Released!

As a prequel to LUPIN THE IIIRD THE MOVIE Fujimi no Ketsuzoku, the first 2D theatrical anime in the Lupin Sansei series in approximately 30 years, the intense hard-boiled action film focusing on Zenigata Keibu, titled LUPIN THE IIIRD Zenigata to Futari no Lupin, is set for simultaneous digital distribution starting June 20, 2025. A promotional video for the film has just been released, revealing that the mysterious role of the fake Lupin will be voiced by Horiuchi Kenyuu.

LUPIN THE IIIRD Zenigata to Futari no Lupin is the latest work by director Koike Takeshi, who has been involved with the LUPIN THE IIIRD series since 2014 and also directs the upcoming LUPIN THE IIIRD THE MOVIE Fujimi no Ketsuzoku, set to open on June 27. This film is a passionate hard-boiled action piece centering on the determined detective, Zenigata Keibu.

The story kicks off with a bombing terror attack occurring in the frigid lands of the Robiet Renpou (likely referring to the former Soviet Union). The prime suspect who emerges is none other than Lupin Sansei himself. However, when Zenigata corners “another Lupin,” this individual proclaims his innocence. Thus, the man dedicated to justice, Zenigata, finds himself confronting a mysterious “Nise Lupin” (Fake Lupin). This marks the beginning of an intense buddy action story, perhaps the most stoic, melancholic, and passionate in the series’ history.

The newly released PV for the film opens with the scene of the unprecedented bombing terror attack. Zenigata, filled with anger, states, “In the bombing terror, innocent citizens were caught up. Unforgivable violence!” He resolves to capture the perpetrator, believed to be Lupin Sansei, with his own hands and pursues the case.

Meanwhile, the two Lupins meet. The cold-blooded Nise Lupin, who looks identical to Lupin Sansei, declares towards the true Lupin, “Omae koso, naze nusumu” (Why do you steal?). The PV showcases a desperate battle involving Jigen Daisuke, Ishikawa Goemon, Mine Fujiko, and of course, Lupin Sansei and Zenigata, betting their lives, justice, and pride.

It has also been revealed that the mysterious Nise Lupin, who bears a striking resemblance to Lupin Sansei, is voiced by Horiuchi Kenyuu. Horiuchi is known for roles such as Sony in F1/Efuan (voiced by Brad Pitt), Ousen in Kingdom, and Sergeant Kikuta in Golden Kamuy. He took on the challenging role of the Nise Lupin, a cold-hearted and despicable perpetrator of a bombing terror that mercilessly sacrifices citizens. Horiuchi expressed his delight in participating in LUPIN THE IIIRD Zenigata to Futari no Lupin, saying that the fake Lupin role “will become one of my representative works!”

Furthermore, on Prime Video, in addition to the distribution of this film starting June 20, the LUPIN THE IIIRD series films also directed by Koike, including Jigen Daisuke no Bohyou, Chikemuri no Ishikawa Goemon, and Mine Fujiko no Uso, will be available for unlimited viewing starting June 27. Additionally, Lupin Sansei: Babylon no Ougon Densetsu will begin streaming on June 6, and Lupin Sansei: Fuuma Ichizoku no Inbou will be available for the first time on June 13.
