BanG Dream! Characters Get Heisei Gyaru Makeover—Lisa, Tomori, Oblivionis and More Go Cho-Beri-Good in New Gamers Event

An all-new BanG Dream! event has fans buzzing as ten beloved characters trade their usual outfits for full-on Heisei-era gyaru style. The “BanG Dream! Heisei★GAL-ization Plan in Gamers” kicks off with a freshly illustrated lineup that turns familiar faces into nostalgic 1990s fashion icons—complete with flared skirts, platform shoes, and bold accessories. The reaction online has been electric, with fans marveling at how natural some of the characters look in the getup.

BanG Dream! is a next-generation girls’ band project that connects characters with live performances, spanning anime, games, and real-life concerts. Bands like Poppin’Party, Roselia, Morfonica, RAISE A SUILEN, MyGO!!!!!, Ave Mujica, and Yumekita Kyuutaipu have active casts who perform live. The project celebrated its 10th anniversary on February 28, 2025, and is currently airing the mini-anime Ganso! Bandori-chan over 52 episodes. A new film, BanG Dream! Ave Mujica prima aurora, is set for 2026, followed by a new TV anime series, plus the upcoming Bandori! Yume ∞ Mita.

The Heisei gyaru makeover applies to ten characters: Kasuga Arisa, Udagawa Tomoe, Maruyama Aya, Imai Lisa, Okusawa Misaki, Kirigaya Touko, Pareo, Takamatsu Tomori, Oblivionis (Toyokawa Saki), and Miyanoue Nonoka. Even characters already known for a gal style fit right in, but the most surprising choices are Takamatsu Tomori and Oblivionis. Fans reacted with delight, saying “Tomorin next to a real gyaru like Touko is hilarious” and “She’s been drafted into the gyaru squad!” Okusawa Misaki and Toyokawa Saki also received excited commentary.

Of course, the true gyaru representatives—Imai Lisa and Kirigaya Touko—are impossible to miss. Their natural look earned praise such as “Lisa-nee and Touko give off major popular-girl vibes,” “Too real Heisei gyaru,” and “We’ve got genuine gyaru here.”

Even the event’s special website is a time capsule, designed to evoke the Heisei era with half-width katakana text, a visitor counter that recalls the “kiriban” (cut-off number) culture, and other nostalgic touches that have fans cheering.
