“The Girl Who Leapt Through Time” 20th Anniversary Revival Releases “If Illustration” Movie Ticket Showing Makoto and Chiaki in Yukata at Summer Festival

Announced for the 20th anniversary revival screenings of The Girl Who Leapt Through Time (Toki wo Kakeru Shoujo): a limited-edition movie ticket (mubichike) with a newly drawn “if illustration,” and a fan event.

This 4K revival screening project by Filmarks kicks off on July 3, 2026 (Friday) for director Hosoda Mamoru’s classic film. The first anime adaptation of Tsutsui Yasutaka’s novel, it follows high school girl Makoto who gains the ability to time leap. As she tries to redo her past, she discovers the meaning of irreplaceable moments in life.

From June 19 (Friday), a limited quantity of mubichike cards featuring a newly drawn illustration by animation director Aoyama Hiroyuki will go on sale. This debut visual imagines a never-realized scenario from the film: “What if Makoto and Chiaki had gone to the summer festival (fireworks display) together in yukata?” The emotional scene captures the two sharing a moment in a twilight atmosphere. The colored version was specially painted for this project based on Aoyama’s line art, and currently this is the only way to obtain it.

A fan event to celebrate the 4K release has also been confirmed. It will be held at the cafe adjacent to CREATIVE MUSEUM TOKYO in Kyobashi, Tokyo. Details will be announced later.

To coincide with the announcement, an SNS giveaway is underway. Five pairs (10 total winners) will receive a set of a 4K mubichike card and an invitation ticket to the “Hosoda Mamoru no Kiten/Ten” exhibition.

The Girl Who Leapt Through Time 4K will be screened nationwide from July 3 (Friday), 2026, at 166 theaters. Ticket prices: 1,700 yen for adults, 1,000 yen for high school students and under.
The 4DX version will have a limited two-week run from August 21 (Friday) at 51 theaters, with an additional 4DX surcharge.
