First, let’s take a quick look at the original series. Yoroi Densetsu Samurai Troopers was a TV anime produced by SUNRISE that aired from April 1988 to March 1989. The story followed five young boys who were guided by destiny to gather the legendary “Yoroi Gear” armor and battle the forces of the “Youja” (Demon World) led by the emperor Arago.
The series also spawned three OVA titles: Yoroi Densetsu Samurai Troopers Gaiden (1989), Yoroi Densetsu Samurai Troopers Kikoutei Densetsu (1989-1990), and Yoroi Densetsu Samurai Troopers MESSAGE (1991). Furthermore, it was adapted into a manga by Hoshino Ryuichi in “Comic Bonbon”.

Even nearly 40 years after its initial broadcast in 1988, the world of Yoroi Densetsu Samurai Troopers continues to boast overwhelming support from fans. This true sequel will unfold a completely original story set in modern-day Shinjuku, Tokyo, marking the start of a new legend.
A fantastic team of creators is gathering for this new production. The series will be directed by Fujita Youichi, known for his work on hit titles like Gintama and Osomatsu-san. The series composition and script will be handled by Mutou Shougo, who has worked on various tokusatsu and live-action projects, including Kamen Rider Build, the film Crows Zero, and Thermae Romae. Murota Yuuhei, the main character designer for the Love Live! series, Love Live! Sunshine!!, and Tokidoki Bosotto Russia-go de Dereru Tonari no Aarya-san, will be in charge of the main character designs.
The original concept for the Yoroi Gear designs will be provided by Okamoto Hideo, who designed the armor in the original Yoroi Densetsu Samurai Troopers and recently worked on Kaiju designs for SSSS.DYNAZENON. This impressive assembly of staff promises an exciting revival. As mentioned, the protagonist Kai will be voiced by Ishibashi Hiiro, whose performance as Miguel in the Japanese dub of Disney/Pixar’s *Coco* brought him into the spotlight.
The super teaser video that was unveiled offers a glimpse into the impending crisis. A Youja Gate appears, the city is ravaged by an unknown force, and the screams of people echo through the streets. The video also includes a moment sure to thrill longtime fans: the protagonist Kai shouting “Busou! Shakunetsu!!” (Equip! Scorching Heat!!) as he transforms.
As figures of young men appear from behind, characters are seen emerging one after another on the back of their necks. The words “Shinsei! Jidai wo Koeta Samurai, Kenzan” (Newly Born! Samurai Surpass Time, Appear!) are displayed, and the trailer concludes with a shocking scene where someone declares, “Ningenn wa minikui ikimonoda na” (Humans are ugly creatures), and slashes down with a sword.
Furthermore, a teaser visual has been released, depicting the back of a Samurai Trooper wearing their Yoroi Gear, standing amidst a devastated city. Both Ishibashi Hiiro, cast as the protagonist Kai, and SUNRISE Studios have shared comments. Anticipation is building for this project, which feels like the birth of a new samurai hero and the beginning of a legendary new chapter.
