Bocchi the Rock! Projection Mapping at Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building Begins Screening of ‘Seishun Complex’ – About 5,500 Visitors on First Weekend

The projection mapping work “Bocchi the Rock! Seishun Complex”, inspired by the popular anime and manga series Bocchi the Rock!, has started screening at the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building.

Based on the four-panel manga by Hamaji Aki, serialized in Houbunsha’s Manga Time Kirara MAX, Bocchi the Rock! aired as a TV anime in fall 2022 and became a massive hit, especially among young audiences. The story follows the extremely shy and introverted girl Hitori Gotou as she joins the band Kessoku Band and grows alongside three unique bandmates, earning widespread empathy.

The series achieved a record eight awards at the Anime Trending Awards 2022, including Anime of the Year, and won first place in the TV Broadcast & Streaming category at the Newtype Anime Awards 2022–2023, garnering immense support both domestically and internationally.

The new projection mapping work “Bocchi the Rock! Seishun Complex” had its first screening on June 20, 2026. It will be shown throughout the year as part of the weekday and weekend content lineup.

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government’s projection mapping project, which began in February 2024, has attracted many visitors from Japan and abroad, with cumulative viewers exceeding 1.4 million. It has become a new tourist attraction in Tokyo, recognized for its high artistic quality, world-leading technology, and content-driven appeal.

During the first weekend of “Bocchi the Rock! Seishun Complex”, despite some rain, approximately 5,500 people—including domestic and international tourists and families—visited the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Plaza.

Visitors shared their impressions: “The power of ‘Seishun Complex’ spreading across the entire government building was overwhelming—it felt like jumping into the world of Kessoku Band. The moment the music and visuals overlapped gave me goosebumps.” Another said, “I came with my family after hearing a new work was being shown, and I was amazed by the scale beyond imagination. The colorful, pop visuals changed one after another, and both children and adults could enjoy it together.”

As a content experience that allows fans to enjoy the world of Bocchi the Rock! on a scale only possible at the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building, it is expected to draw many more visitors in the future.
