Snowball Earth Season 2 Production Announced: New Footage and Congratulatory Illustrations from Staff and Cast

The final episode of the TV anime Snowball Earth aired on June 26, 2026, and immediately after the broadcast, a second season was announced. Along with the announcement, a brand-new animated video was released, and congratulatory illustrations from the original creator Tsujitsugu Yūhirō, staff, cast, and even collaborating VTubers have arrived.

Snowball Earth is a manga by Tsujitsugu Yūhirō that has been serialized in Shogakukan’s Gekkan! Spirits since January 2021. The latest 11th volume, released on April 1, 2026, pushed cumulative print run past 800,000 copies. The TV anime adaptation began airing on April 3, 2026.

The story follows a shy boy named Tetsuo and his only friend, a giant robot named Yukio. They are hailed as saviors who fight against galactic monsters invading from space. However, Tetsuo loses the final battle for humanity’s survival and loses Yukio as well. Returning to Earth ten years later, he finds a frozen planet covered in snow and ice—the “Snowball Earth.” With a promise to Yukio in his heart, Tetsuo begins to walk through this unknown world.

The final episode aired on June 26, 2026, on Nippon TV’s “Furaani” block. After the episode, the second season production was announced, and a new animated video was released. The PV already hints at the content of Season 2, showing new challenges for protagonist Tetsuo and his partner Yukio, as well as the appearance of new characters and encounters with new friends.

To celebrate the second season production, a host of people connected to the work sent in congratulatory illustrations. These include original creator Tsujitsugu Yūhirō, the director and staff who have driven the anime, voice actors, and even VTubers from Hololive Production who collaborated with the series—Oomaru Polka and Momosuzu Nene—each contributing special illustrations full of love.

A Blu-ray BOX complete first-press limited edition is scheduled for release on September 16, 2026. The limited edition includes a “Yukio-shaped sleeve” and an “ice box,” along with other store-specific bonuses.

The journey of Tetsuo and Yukio continues. Expectations are high for further news on the scaled-up second season.
